My wife and I travels a lot and we just spent one night at Hamn i Senja while on a short road trip in Northern Norway.
The NW coast of Senja and Hamn is a stunning location, no doubt! But we expected higher quality food and room standard at Hamn.
The mini rooms are just that, but are simply way too basic, with narrow single beds and cheap bedding, and the room totally lacks care and maintenance. Every single shelf was loose and sloping (items slid off the bathroom shelf... heading for the toilet), the towel holders and tissue paper holder were loose and just about falling off the walls. Closets doors dont close and jams into the ceiling. There are no bug screens on the window (and there are big mosquitos here!), except the big spider and his web inside the window frame. There was no TV in the room, although the booking says there is.
We sat down and ordered dinner around 20:45. One halibut and one boknafisk. Our waitress (Russian?) mixed something up and our order was delayed half an hour. The boknafisk was quite good, but my wife’s halibut was not! Dried out, overcooked, no sauce and no flavours. Not worth the high price. I work in the Norwegian seafood business, and this is bad advertizing. Places like this needs to know how to cook gourmet fish - plain and simple! She finished it simply due to being hungry. Then her raspberry pie had a soggy crust, so she was not impressed. The desserts were taken off our bill, but still...
Breakfast was nothing special, but basic Norwegian hotel standard. But nobody likes tasteless scrambled eggs (out of a carton?) and soggy bacon. It is not hard to make crispy bacon in a normal stove!
The final straw was when leaving the room packing luggage into our car behind the buildings. Room and kitchen staff hanging around the corners smoking is in fact annoying and putting off some guests.
You really need to improve the food quality and pay care and attention to all the details running this place if you want to cater to the high-end market!
