Pratapgad fort is located approximately 25 kilometres of Mahabaleshwar, a popular hill station in the area. The fort is situated at 3,540 ft above sea level.
The fort can be divided into the lower fort and upper fort.
The upper fort was built on the top of the hill. It is roughly square. It has several permanent buildings, including a temple to the god Mahadev. Fort is surrounded by sheer cliffs with drops of up to 250m. Goddess Bhawani mandir is at the lowerfort .
Main entrance of the fort is quite narrow. There are many hiding bunker around . From the buttom to top there are approximately 1000 steps . Height of each is steps are bit high . Climb slowly . Guide will force you to cover the distance first so that he can go with next set of guest. One should take a qualified guide who can explain most about this historical fort.
There are small restaurent between lower and upper fort . You can enjoy typical maharastrian food . Lush green Jawali valley add to scenic beauty.
It is advised to reach this fort early . As day passed this place becomes hot and climbing up to the fort becomes tiring . We traveled on 27-Jan-2018 still we felt hot at around 1000 AM
lot of State transport busses ply from Mahabaleshwar to Pratapgarh fort. During peak season this place gets crowded and getting parking slot very near the fort becomes difficult.
