This hotel has all the basics, although air-conditioning and wifi are spotty. The location is very good for touring around Caen including the Normandy beaches.
Staff were fairly helpful although it took some serious arm wrestling to get moved to a room where the AC wasn't blowing hot air.

Very friendly and helpful staff although limited English. Clean rooms, a bit on the tight side. No luxuries such as tissues, etc. Bathroom was a pod-type modular affair in the room but had great water pressure in the shower. Wireless is free & OK but you constantly have to log back in. Breakfast was 10 euros and a bit thin. There is a McDonalds right by the hotel. BTW, there is an Ibis Budget 1/2 block away which is where your GPS will take you. Turn left and left again behind the McDonalds for the Ibis.

First off- some positive, it is cheaper than Ibis Caen Central, comes with free parking & there is a McDonalds right opposite.

That is unfortunately it and our latest stay really did change our impression of Ibis for the worst.

The street itself is not on our Garmin Sat-Nav, and we first arrived at the Ibis Budget down the road, whose staff ironically seem to have better command of English and better service. The hotel itself is around 15mins drive from the main tourist attractions in Caen.

The only staff who seem to speak basic English is the person at the reception & answers the phone (after long waits).

The room is quite small, though as you can see from the photo with a small bathroom it was designed with good use of space- a reminder of university halls of residence.

The mattress is extremely soft and we couldn't quite figure out why they put a soft think white mattress (not just mattress cover but mattress) on top of another mattress, which means the bed is far too soft. So uncomfortable that we had to ask the reception to change it on the second night. Unfortunately, the lady at reception does not understand what we want and when I supplemented with French, we were told every room has the same mattress.

Everything you called for reception for you have to get from reception yourself- this ranges from
1) Hot water (No kettle in room), and I have to take the 2 pots of hot water & 2 cups myself- Not only that, but when you arrive at reception, they send you to the reception who then send you back to receptionist who then speak to the restaurant to get you the hotwater. This happen on both occasion we asked for hot water.
2) Firmer pillows (we asked for firmer pillow only to be given 1 soft & 1 normal pillow)

The guy who seats in the room behind reception ignores customers.

Now onto the housekeeping. On the first day, we put up a "Do Not Disturb" signed but when we returned the housekeep came in and disturbed our belongings. Also, for a hotel who boast for being green, I am surprised the towels left on hooks were replaced.

What is more shocking happened after the second night. We did forgot to put up the DND sign, but were shocked to be waken up by door being opened without any knocking. We said stop and the door was closed. When I went in my PJ and opened the door to investigate, I found the housekeeping trolley was very swiftly retreated! No sorry whatsoever in French or English.

It would take a lot for me to return to the hotel....Perhaps they should call this hotel also Ibis Budget!

Room Tip: Find another hotel

We stayed at this hotel after a long drive, saw the sign and turned in as this hotel is situated jist off the motorway at Caen. The man on reception was so helpful and the room rate was really good value. Breakfast can be purchased but it is only buffet and not worth the money especially as there is a McDonalds just down the road. Parking is free and secure and WiFi is available which worked very well. There is a Grill Bar and Restaurant up the road and theu give you a 15% discount if you are staying at the Ibis. The rooms are clean with hot shower but there are no hairdryers, basic but clean and the bed was comfortable, could not ask for more when you are tired.

Room Tip: If you open your window you can hear the buzz of the motorway. All the roooms look the same and there is a lift.
