Due to the good recommendations and nice Homepage we give it a try for our wedding day. We arrived and there was a small personal present for our wedding day, very kind. We had two different menus and also here you have the option to mix if you prefer. The food is very tasty, nice decoration and portions that are nice. The service is excellent and professional and still personal. The restaurant is nice decorated and the tables are in a good distance from each other so more than enough privacy.

Thank Marco O

I felt it expensive even for the Swiss standard but the quality is amazingly good. Love the hospitality.

We were greatly looking forward to our luncheon at the highly acclaimed Golden Lion and, seated in the shady garden on a very hot day, our expectations were high. Since the only gourmet menu offered started at sFr 72, we decided to try the more modestly priced recommendations of the day/week. This decision was not necessarily rewarded as expected.
First, the daily luncheon was completely different that what the menu stated - instead of the listed beef stew with a pasta specialty, the menu featured a pork ragout with fusilli. While the pork dish was ok, the soft and bland pasta accompaniment did not win any converts. The spaghetti with a fine bolognese sauce equally suffered from bland doneness, confirming our conviction that it is best to stay away from pasta dishes in Swiss restaurants. Much much better: a plate with seared filets of a local fish (Egli), accompanied by various vegetables and a timbale of rice. We also enjoyed the very tasty creamy "tomato soup" - a melange of various vegetables assertively spiced.

More in line with the plaudits of the restaurant were the desserts, some very original creations that included varied semifreddi with fruits and creams. The well-structured Merlot from Ticino was very good, service was relaxed and friendly. One strange thing was the one-time only offer of a thin, small slice of bread when there was a good amount of herbed butter on the table waiting to be enjoyed.

In retrospect we regretted not ordering the more elaborate menu, it might have better shown the culinary qualities of this restaurant. As for the regular fare, it was quite average for Swiss restaurants.

we recently spent a weekend in Langnau while traveling around Switzerland. Should you find yourself in Langnau - a little off the common tourist routes in Switzerland - I recommend Zum Goldenen Lowen. Close to the train station and the central district, it has ample parking and as the photos show - is quite pretty. We had a booth in a quiet area and they provided English menus. The service was prompt and friendly, and the food was fresh and well prepared traditional Swiss. I would recommend the pork carpaccio (yes, pork) appetizer - really nicely done and in my experience unique. Good value, good food, and nice ambiance.
