“Worth the trip!”

Yume no Tsuribashi Suspension Bridge

Attraction details

I planned a day trip to visit Yume No Tsuribashi Suspension Bridge. We started the day off early and made our way to Kanaya station. At Kanaya station you can purchase a round trip ticket (including bus fare) to Senzu station for 3900 yen. We arrived at Senzu station around 11am and took a 40 min bus ride up to the Sumatakyo Onsen area (the last stop). We were able to hike to the bridge and back in 1.5 hours. We went in Nov and although the water level is lower, you do get gorgeous autumn leaves surrounding the mountains!

This bridge is getting famous in Japan because it has been appeared on TV shows recently and we can get there from Tokyo within 3 hours by car. Because of this, if you are considering to visit there, you should visit early morning on weekday in order to avoid crowd.

Take the SL train of Oigawa railway from Shin-Kanaya to Senzu for 80 minutes.
Get bus from Senzu to Sumatakyo Onsen for 40 minutes.
You must check the timetable for both train and bus for good connection.
The route ticket, you can take both train and bus, is available at Kanaya terminal. It is easy to use and a bit cheaper.
You may pre-reserve seats of SL train through the website of Oigawa Railway. English & Chinese pages are available.

[Attracted points]
1. Ohma dam lake (see pictures)
Tyndall effect makes color of the lake to "cobalt blue".
2. Yume no Tsurihashi (A susupension bridge: see pictures)
90 meters long and 8 meters high from the lake.
Maximum 10 persons can be on at the same time.

[Recommendations & Cautions]
Visit there in the morning (earlier is better).
* Less people makes no wait
* To do this, stay in Sumatakyo Onsen area.
Visit there on week days
* A local person said that you might wait for two hours to pass the bridge on some holidays.
One-way rule on the bridge
* Since the bridge is very narrow, you may not possible to pass by one another.
* You cannot return, therefore, you have to keep going to other side of river.
320 stairs on the other side of river
* These stairs are little a bit tough.
It takes 90 minutes for the round trip.
* If you want to take rest or need time to take photos, you need extra minutes.
Good shooting point for the bridge is located on the way of the round trip route.
* You can have a distant view of whole bridge.

Yume-no Tsuribashi is a suspension bridge crossing a lake in Sumata Kyo, Shizuoka.
The bridge is 90meter long, 8m above the
emerald green lake...so beautiful and amazing view
that's true, HOWEVER!!
It swings and jives as you walk...so,
I couldn't enjoy the view from the bridge...phew.
Worth a visit, but recommend you to take pictures before you cross the bridge.

It was a gorgeous site. The emerald waters are so relaxing, it was like being in another world. However, we went there after a rain fall so the other side of the river was milky green. I should have rated this 5 stars if not for the rain.

We went there by car because the instructions going there by train was a little bit difficult to understand.

The bridge is wobbly but that's the thrill of this adventure. I guess it's better to go there during autumn where the green leaves turns red, yellow and orange.

To photo enthusiasts, bring your wide angled lenses.
