We wanted a more leisurely trip along the Alpine route from Toyama to Nagano and decided to stay a night along the route. We selected this as it’s more reasonably priced that the one at Murodo and was not disappointed with our choice.
The view of the snow-capped surroundings were stupendous. Despite my wonky knee, I manage to trek on the snow to the caldera viewpoint. It’s was a worthwhile trek. Unfortunately the walk around the wetland was closed as the area is still snow capped. The sun was out in the morning but turned cloudy towards the evening so we missed the star gazing.

We were upgraded to a triple room although we only booked a twin. Room was western style, large and clean but a bit dated. Wifi was slow. The best part of our stay was the view of the snow capped mountain from our room, at the Onsen and at the restaurant when we watched sunset.

Our disappointment was the non availability of coffee either at the reception or in the room. The video show at 8pm has nice slides but commentary was only in Japanese. We would have appreciated English subtitles.

The staff was very helpful and spoke sufficient English. We arrived after 1pm and they allowed us to check in early. The restaurant was already closed for lunch but the bar had very limited menu and was pricey. We had wanted to buy our lunch before arriving at the hotel but the previous stops along the Alpine did not have proper cafes. Dinner was kaiseki and choice was good.

On the whole this was definitely a value for money stopover.

No regrets spending a night instead of rushing through the alpine. We went to the Snow wall then checked into hotel. In May, everywhere is snow. No star gazing as sky was cloudy.

Our room has a beautiful view of the mountain. Rooms are old and dated but its fine with us because view was great. However they dont provide coffee as usually the case in Japanese hotels in bedroom or at lobby. You have to get one at the cafe.

Breakfast spread is so-so and diluted coffee. I was expecting Hokkaido Prince kind of breakfast standard.

That said, I cant wait to return in autumn one day to visit the wetlands. The 8pm talk was interesting. I dont understand Japanese but the slides were pretty. Can you add just some english words so we can google and read up while following your photos.

Check in was smooth and lady spoke good english.

Very happy that they put couples on second floor for quiet dinner.

You must stay this hotel if you need accommodation in Mt. Tateyama area!

Room was clean and comfortable, and meals were excellent.
You can overlook Toyama city from its large public bath, taking a bath with sunset is gorgeous experience.
Also, staff was friendly and helpful enough to give advice to guests.
Hotel offers some free programs for you to learn more about the great nature of Midagahara, staff has excellent knowledge.

For your info, you need to make a reservation for Tateyama Kogen Bus to take it from Midagahara, ask the staff for booking.

Highland buses stop right at the hotel's doorstep. Staffs are all attentive and helpful. Hotel is old but clean with awesome view. The Japanese dinner was superb. There's a snow slide right in front of the hotel and they provide free snow boots, snowshoes and hiking sticks.

Very nice place. The rooms are excellent, Japanese rooms can accommodate 5 people. The services are excellent. Very convenient for us to stay a night before we continue the trip from Tateyama to Kurobe.
Good location, direct access by the bus.

The food was great. Very nice Japanese dinner provided. Great and stunning view outside the hotel. Easy to follow the path for trekking.

Highly recommend his hotel for other travellers. The hot spring is nice. Not a big one but enough for the guests.
