3 star at best

If you want to stay at a hotel that is described as 4star luxury which it certainly is not then this is the place for you!

If you want to stay at place with stains on the ceiling in the rooms what looks like coffee then this is the place for you!

If you want to stay at a place that could do with a good lick of paint then this is the place for you!

If you want to pay £35 for a £8 bottle of PinotGrigio then this is the place for you!

If you want to waitress to bring you the wrong meal ordered out and insisting it’s the right order and then changing it for correct order and making it out that you are in the wrong then this is the place for you!

If you want to eat a tiny breakfast before going up a mountain then this is the place for you!

I’ve only given the hotel a 2star review because of the view down at the lake.

Lovely Stay

Really nice lake view room with balconies which accomodated 3 of us comfortably. Stunning view even from the loo! The rooms are a little shabby chic in places and the lounges /dining room could do with an update but v clean and wonderfully situated on the lake with an 'olde worlde' charm and lovely friendly, efficient staff especially in the dining room. Enjoyed the Elemis products in the rooms, and the delicious food which could not be faulted.
Lounges a little chilly ..they would definitely benefit from the fireplaces being lit. Overall perfect stay for us away from the touristy feel of Windermere and not pretentious like the nearby 'Another Place' We hope to return. Cat lovers will enjoy meeting the friendly black and white cat that appears in the grouds looking for attention and a lap to sit on.

Perfect three days away.

Couldn't have asked for a better break. A lovely hotel in great surroundings. Although the bathroom needed a little bit of tlc the rooms were spotless. The food served in the restaurant was so good we ate there all three nights. The breakfast was also very good and was well managed considering covid restrictions. The staff were very helpful and friendly and even offered suggestions on places to visit nearby. Would definitely recommend and we hope to return soon.

Great venue.

Over several months. I have been running various training packages based at this hotel.
The venue has completely fulfilled our needs. We have utilised the ‘blue room’, various lounges and the fantastic outdoor space looking out over Ullswater.
The staff have been fantastic, a real ‘can do’ attitude. Courteous, helpful and catering for our needs.
Very good cuisine, comfortable rooms and friendly staff. A manager who personally comes to check that things are ok.
From a corporate perspective, What else do you need!

Stunning location

Just back from a 2 night weekend stay. The view from our balcony(Room 2)of the gardens and across to the lake,was absolutely stunning! The room was very comfortable and had a large bathroom. The hotel has a 'grand' feel to it but at the same time feels quite intimate and friendly. All staff were very helpful and cheery and all Covid 19 regulations were fully adhered to. We spent an interesting half hour looking at documents & information on the history of the house. Breakfast was good and we had dinner in the restaurant on one of the nights. Service was a little slow but we weren't in a rush and the food was good.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon.
