Wonderfully located beside the river in an idyllic rural setting. Lots of wildlife around, ranging from dragonflies, crickets, fish, birds, etc.

However, flawed in multiple aspects: coffee that tastes like if is dragged from the bed of the local stream, staff that range from friendly but incompetent to downright lazy, and food that is quite poor. Facilities are also getting a little tired (e.g., shower heads that don't work, doors that don't close, etc).

Reinvigorate the staff, replace the chef/ cook, and yes, this would be a hidden gem. However, on current performance, stay well clear.

Hidden away in an ancient forest by a beautiful stretch of river, this really is a special place. To fully appreciate it, walk south along the riverbank through the 400-year old oaks and alders to the Neira bridge - heaven.

Our room was old, atmospheric and comfortable, and our evening meals were exceptional, with the Galician specialities a particular treat. But, as other reviewers have pointed out, service is a problem. Our room was not cleaned and the bed was left unmade, calls to reception went unanswered and it took half an hour to find someone to tell us where to go for breakfast. That said, two of the three staff, when found, were helpful and enthusiastic.

Nevertheless, our overall impression was positive. If you like characterful places in very special locations and excellent food, A Fervensa is for you. If you want attentive service, best to go elsewhere.

I had been here 8 years ago and ever since wanted to come back because the experience had been very good: a special place catered by an attentive owner in an idyllic location. Now it is understaffed (even if some of the staff are nice and try to be attentive) and quite run-down. It continues to be a special building in a magic location but instead of the nice, romantic and cosy room from my memories, now they put us (because we had a new-born with us?) into a tiny dark room below the stairway (we could count each guest going up and down) with sub-optimal heating and one of those sanitary installations you get in those small pensions in remote Spanish villages where you might sleep on a bike journey (photo attached). It is certainly not at the level of a hotel with a price as high as the nicely restored charming design hotels (in also antique buildings) in the Galician capitals. There is a sad but clear lack of managerial vision: you did not see ever the owner/manager, the waitress to the breakfast refused to make an espresso (Breakfast is paid apart with 8,5€) because the machine is downstairs, and everything looked quite ... neglected. The restaurant might be the only reason to ever come back. Really a sad story of decline: like the fall of the house of Usher.

This inn was booked for us by our tour company for a one night stay and dinner. Wonderful little place which was once a miller's house. Beautiful room and surroundings. Galician cuisine and wines were excellent. Had lamb cooked in wood fired oven. Delicious!

We stayed here one night while walking the Camino de Santiago. The property is near but not on the main Camino. It is actually in a very remote location but quite close Lugo. I suspect many locals come here for a short get-away. The location along a river is very peaceful and tranquil but the building itself is quite old and one may or may not find that charming. That said, we never saw more than one staff person at a time and some rooms were up several flights of stairs. Our room was on the ground floor but we still had to negotiate some steps. The room was compact but not small but the bathroom was a bit of a challenge and the bathtub down right dangerous - a definite hazard. WiFi only worked sporadically and only in certain locations. The same woman at reception served us in the dining room (so someone must have been in the kitchen) and dinner was delicious. Breakfast was good, as well.
