While it's great to know about the paleontological past of the Normandy coast, this is a very small enterprise and costs (in 2016) 7 euros to get in. It only takes about ten minutes to go around. It's in a nice area, but if you come in summer, it is far more fun to see the topiary dinos in the center of the adjoining town, Villers-sur-Mer.

We had just arrived in Caen and the heavens decided to open.
We dived into a Macs for a hot drink and saw a leaflet advertising Paleospace.
Both my boys were very keen to go and explore.
It's not a massive place to visit so really only a few hours if you look at everything. But as it was dinosaurs and space my boys had a wonderful time.
Lots of pictures taken.
Souvenir shop was very expensive tho.
If the weather is nice when u go there is a cafe/coffee shop across the park from Paleospace. You can also hire bikes etc. something we would have done but didn't have the weather for it.
All in all a nice place to visit but doesn't take long to look around.

Much smaller than anticipated and really not geared towards our kids- it was okay but certainly not a must-see. Skip paleospace and head right to the bike rentals in front- rent a family bike and have a blast riding through the lovely area

It gave a different view of Villers sur Mer because this little sea side town has a paleontology history.

Paleospace is a very useful prequel to fossil hunting on the beach at Villers-sur-Mer, a renown fossil site. As well as some great examples from around the world (though don't expect the Natural History Museum, this is a much smaller enterprise!) there is local history and fine examples of fossils to look for on the beach.
The area is France's Jurassic coast and mirrors Dorset. Villers-sur-Mer layers of rock are a mix of Callovian-Oxfordian and Cenomanian. The result is an amazing range of specimens including sharks teeth, gastropods, echinoderms, brachiopods, bivalves, ammonites, belemnites, sponges ....More about fossil finds, the town and beach here plus pics http://www.normandythenandnow.com/monsters-villers-sur-mer/
Don't be surprised to see a giant topiary diplodocus in the town! Very proud of their heritage and this annual summer visitor is a popular local landmark.
