We were greeted by Chef Lukas who was very knowledgeable and pleased to answer our questions regarding the flavour profiles and traditions of the Chinese kitchen.
Chef Lukas was not challenged by our gluten free vegan menu request and happily made suggestions and shared his personal knowledge of the Chinese kitchen. His organic, locally grown vegetables were not only a delight to the palate, but eye appealing as well. The crisp taste of farm fresh vegetables were not over powered by ready made sauces, but lovingly made from scratch, using traditional spices of the regions of southern China.
The service was accommodating and focused. It was apparent that attention to detail is part of the concept, whether it be the menu choices or the restaurant's ambience. Here you feel and see the passion and pride in what they do.
Next time we'll visit the sister restaurant in Lucerne, where, according to the Chef, his wife serves more traditionally northern Chinese cuisine. (And gluten free vegan dishes are also no problem either.)
We greatly look forward to visiting again. Jialu is a quality authentic Chinese restaurant that uses fresh, local and organic ingredients with a vegetarian menu, too.
