First time visitor for an intimate dinner for two. We had wanted to try this place for a long time and finally decided to treat ourselves to a special Christmas night out. This isn't the kind of place we'd come to often, so when we do treat ourselves we want the food & experience to be memorable.
Unfortunately this was not that night. Honestly we couldn't fault the experience as a whole, the service was excellent, all of the staff buzzing around really made is feel special and nothing was too difficult. I think based on other similar restaurants we have been to our expectations were too high. We both had the degustation option at $150pp, and that included a total of 5 dishes.I'd have to say 2 of the dishes (marron & pig) were excellent could not be faulted. The other two were good not great. Desserts were excellent so I'd say 3 out of the 5 were excellent. The bread to start with was out of this world as was the two types of butter served with it.
We didn't opt for the matching wines at $118.00pp just felt this was excessive. To their credit, the dishes were all staggered and we ended up staying for over 3 hours and were not hassled at all.
I'm not sure we'd come back again, there are so many top shelf restaurants in Melbourne that when you pay $430 for two you expect to be wowed and this just did not happen.
