The neighborhood where this old building is located was Japanese areas with school, consular office and 100 year old cathedral. You can see the cycle of history since Mokpo at that time functioned as 5th largest harbour in Korean peninsula.

Not bad for a free museum. The photographic exhibit of the Japanese occupation was very comprehensive. It was interesting to see how the city has changed over the years.

Set in the office of a former Japanese bank in the old Japanese district of Mokpo this museum gives a glimpse of the troubled history of Korea over the past century.

As previously mentioned this museum doesn't hold back and hide the unpleasantness of some of the Japanese activities in Korea. Upstairs focuses on this area of the history and contains graphic images of murder and torture which are probably best avoided by those of sensitive disposition, however whilst shocking I found it refreshing that this museum didn't try to hide the horrors of occupation.

The museum is located a short walk from the railway station.

This museum is a record of 20th century Mokpo/Japan and focuses on the harrowing colonialism of Japan. Many lessons for the world. In addition, there are photographic comparisons of current Mokpo and the 1930's / 1940's. Photos taken from the same point, of the same view - shows the transformation.

This small museum near Yudalsan is worth visiting. It provides visitors with a photographic history of South Korea during the 20th century. Many of the photos focus on Mokpo and Jeollanam-do and provide a fascinating glimpse into the history of the region. Be warned, this museum isn’t for the faint of heart. Many of their photos deal with the worst elements of the Japanese occupation of Korea.
