We stayed one night at Marina Cottages. They have many types of rooms, for all prices. We stayed in a Deluxe room.
The room is nice, with AC and a bathroom with hot water. Bathrooms are badly maintained. We can say this because we’ve seen 3 before they could find a room where the water was actually warm…
We had dinner at the restaurant. The food was good.
What we regret about Marina Cottages is that the staff is totally clue- and helpless : they’d bring your beer but wouldn’t open it, then disappear. By the time they come back and we could ask them to open the bottle, it wasn’t warm anymore. Rooms that were supposed to have hot water didn’t have it, and they didn’t know how to fix it (they where actually fiddling with the AC circuit breaker, which helped me later on to fix our aircon problem as it wasn’t working in the room they eventually put us in). A couple of Brits were asking if we had warm water, because they didn’t have any. As a matter of fact, we were more perseverant, so we ended up finding a room where the hot water supply was actually working…
Breakfast is from 7 to 10 am, served as a buffet. When we showed up by 8 am, there were pretty much 2 tiny fish left with some rice. We asked if they could prepare more food. We got a few tiny pancakes. After eating these, we were obviously still hungry, but we were told there was nothing else to eat. So we advise you to show at 7 sharp in case you want to have breakfast.
One great thing about Marina Cottages is Mr Edy. He’s actually a travel agent, and he helped us book speedboat tickets to Wakai, and called our resort in Kadidiri to check availability. He is extremely nice and helpful.
So basically, if you are thinking to only spend one night in Ampana and need help to travel further, Marina Cottages is a good place. If you are planning on staying there for longer, I wouldn’t recommend the place… based on that single night experience.
