Beautiful chateau with very long history. Would have preferred to see some of the furnished rooms but still very interesting.

Easy day trip from Rodez and good to combine with Esplion and Entraques. Each of these have UNESCO bridges and quaint streets.

We stumbled across Estaing on our way from Conques to Le Puy-en-Velay.

Located at the foot of the Aubrac Mountains - not far from the gorges of the Lot and Truyère - Estaing is in the Aveyron département of the Midi-Pyrénées region, and is classified as the one of le plus beaux villages en France.

And it really is very lovely.

The village is dominated by the 13th century Château - listed as one of France's historical monuments - and it features a cluster of stone houses with slate slab roofs. Near the Château, the 15th century église Saint Fleuret - which houses the relics of its namesake saint - is also classified as an historic monument of France, while the gothic bridge which spans the Lot is a UNESCO world heritage site, as part of the Chemins de St Jacques de Compostelle.

Put Estaing and its Château and église on your 'must see' list when in this part of France. And try the chocolat chaud à l'ancienne at the Brasserie du Château (which was good, if not as good as the best I've had - which was at the Marché Biologique Raspail in the 6th in Paris...) The photos describe the village so much better than I can...

Estaing is quite a small but very nice village : you will recognize it immediately thanks to its proud castle !
It gave its name to a french President : Giscard d'Estaing.
If you travel along the way of Compostella, don't miss this beautiful castle : the church nearby is worth the visit too !
