Here’s a real review: unfortunately, I cannot recommend

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 15, 2023via mobile
Review of my room: “High Floor City View Double Room” for which I stayed 13 nights.

The good:
* Common toiletries provided
* Fresh towels provided daily.
* Bed is fairly comfortable.
* Mini fridge in room
* 2 minute walk to subway station called “Nishi-shinjuku Gochome station”

The bad:
* The area of the hotel sucks. It is very very very quiet. Nothing fun to do in this part of Shinjuku. It has a very corporate feeling. Not at all what I was expecting. Very disappointed in the area. Very boring. And there must be a hospital near by since there were a lot of ambulance sirens throughout the day and night.
* The room is extremely small. Because of its size, it is not functional.
* I would never consider this space accommodating to more than one person total.
* I knew the room was not going to be spacious but I at least expected it to be functional. It is not. The room is very crowded. And because of this, the room seems unwelcoming and unkept since there is literally no space to hide your belongings.
* There is no place to store your clothes. None at all.
* You have to store your luggage under the bed frame and crawl on the floor to access your luggage.
* There is no physical space to open your suitcase.
* There is only 4 feet/1.3 meters between the bed and the desk.
* The bathroom is tiny. I could not spread my arms without touching the opposing wall.
* There is no shelf space to place your toiletry items in the bathroom. So again, the bathroom feels disorganized and chaotic since you’re having to place your toiletries in odd places in the bathroom.
* Pool CANNOT be used if you have tattoos, and if you do want to use the pool, there is an additional cost of around $10-14 USD
* Pool is only open from July to September.
* Washer and dryer available. Cash only. Dryer took 2 hours to dry socks/underwear.
* No microwave in room. Only two public ones for guests uses
* No clothes iron in room. But there is an ironing room located on only 2 floors of the hotel.
* Only one ice machine for entire hotel.
* Housekeeping is only upon request.
* I paid extra for a “high floor.” It wasn’t worth it.
* You CANNOT control the air conditioning since it is only controlled centrally. There were many nights I sweat so much because my room was hot despite having the window opened as much as possible.
* I do not feel the price is paid is justified given the small cramped space

Nice hotel, convenient location, rooms and bathroom are quite small but there is a decent breakfast buffet. A nice dim sum restaurant next door as well as a few other places to eat. Easy to check in and check out. Convenient laundry room downstairs too.

This hotel has reopened, even though some websites say it hasn’t. The hotel is a very good value, with small but well-appointed rooms. Breakfast is great and the location is convenient to the subway and lots of good restaurants. I only subtract one star because of the unfortunate and bizarre pool situation. The pool is advertised all over the hotel literature, in the elevators, etc. I went to use it one day, and it is certainly nice, but after about five minutes a staff member ran out and told me I had to get out and leave. I don’t have tattoos. I’m not sure if it is closed or because I didn’t pay the extra fee (hotel is not very clear about this). I pick hotels that have pools because I like to swim laps daily, so it’s pretty annoying when they come up with nonsense as to why it can’t be used.

Room tip: The air conditioning works in the rooms even though the hotel says it is centrally controlled

The hotel was fine. The room and bathroom was really small (as you would expect in Japan).
Good Points - Hotel was close to subway / Swimming pool & lounge on the 11th floor, although small, was good for an hour on relatively warm afternoons / Bar was an Irish pub with the meals very good / McDonalds about a five minute walk. / Fairly quiet.
Bad Points - Thought I'd bought breakfast but on first morning, realised I hadn't / Check in at 3pm was a bit negative (I'd flown almost 14 hours and got to the hotel at 12pm the following morning). Went to lunch but still really negative.

Room tip: I was on the back which ensured it was really quiet.

Thank you very much for staying at APA Hotel & Resort <Nishi Shinjuku 5-chome Station Tower>

This hotel is a business-style hotel,so the rooms are not too big,but close to a subway station,convenience store and near the downtown,like Shinjuku,Ropponngi,Hrajuku,Shibuya.
You can go to Shinjuku for 10 minutes by taxi or 5 minutes by subway.

Check-in time is 3pm. if you want to check-in early,you need to pay 1000 JPY per hour.

Location - 1 stop away from shinjuku. Less busy part of town.
Restaurants- quite a few choices on the same street including access to family mart and Lawson across the hotel
Rooms - Basic but small rooms. Good for 1 person. Seems to be the standard in Japan. Pillows were odd, like cardboard stuck together, good thing I had a travel pillow!
Bathrooms- Very clean!
Check-in - automated and easy

Over-all: will definitely stay again!

A very busy hotel with 18 floors and only 4 lifts and no stairs. Around checkout time we waited 6 times for the lift and every time the door opened it was packed to the brim full of people.

With the coronavirus a serious threat forcing that amount of strangers in a lift together for a 10am check out time is irresponsible.

The same thing happened the night before it was the exact same thing waiting 10-15 mins for the lift. Ridiculous.

Rooms were tiny as was the bathroom.

On the plus side the TV was big and there was a nice view from the window. The male staff members were very nice, polite and accommodating.
