This was the site of a villa belonging to Matsudaira Oki-no-kami, Lord of the Shikoku Iyo-Matsuyama Clan, and was where Oishi Yuranosuke's son Oishi Chikara and none others committed seppuku after the 47 Ronin had attacked and killed Lord Kira. Chikara was 16 years old and though he was offered the opportunity to write to his mother but declined. Then pond (which can be seen on the Italian embassy website) is reputed to be the spot where they committed seppuku
