True Paradise D/A Oceanica Resort Bohol Philippines

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 6, 2024
I am positive everyone has dreamt of lying out on a beautiful white sandy beach with amazing soft very warm water as the sun shines providing a suntan and the ocean breeze cools your body. You can make your dream come true if you travel to Bohol in the Philippines. The name of the resort is now called Oceanica Resort, formerly South Palms Resort Panglao Bohol. The resort is currently building a bigger and better one next door to the Oceanica. They decided to switch the name to the new location. Soon the new one will be ready for reservations. We have been to many of the resorts in the Philippines since my wife is from the Philippines. Most of the well-known resorts are always busy because not only are the accommodation wonderful, the beaches are great but most importantly the people are exceptionally friendly, and they speak English. It was only by luck I found our resort. It turned out to be the best possible choice. Our accommodation was located maybe 10 yards from the beach! We stayed in a Premium Beach Front. What was most important about this resort was the relaxing atmosphere due to the smaller number of people. Perhaps because it was in April when most people do not travel. Also, it is very hot in the Philippines. Personally, I love the hot weather, it is easier to get a suntan. In fact, I was able to get a nice suntan on our first day and it was overcast. Of course you need to be careful not to get sunburned. Everyday we would go for breakfast and meet IC our favorite waitress. They do not display their full names, only their initials. Can imagine everyday being greeted with a beautiful smile by everyone. That alone could make anyone’s day. They offer a complete breakfast with many different options. We took a tour to see the chocolate hills and Tarsievs monkeys. On the same tour we went on a boat ride that was fun. Of course, there is island hopping, but most of the time we enjoyed the beautiful beach just to relax for a change. My wife went for a couple of spa treatments, she said made her feel completely relaxed. Lying on the beach was more than enough for me. I think they should have named the resort Paradise because it just does not get any better. Just one last point to me is most important. The staff is by far exceptional! Everyone makes a sincere concerted effort to ensure you are happy with the resort. Their beautiful smiles and interactions with us are what makes the place heaven on earth. I really did not want to leave and say goodbye to our beautiful new friends. Like Cindy who makes omelets for breakfast, who is behind the counter and has little or no exposure to the guest. Her beautiful smile alone can fill your heart with happiness. In short, everyone deserves to at least once in their life to visit Oceanica Resort. The memories you take away will last a lifetime.

The pick-up and drop-off service is exceptionally convenient.

The driver is both informative and welcoming, enhancing the overall experience.

Upon arrival, the concierge efficiently assisted us with check-in, and the front desk staff were friendly and eager to recommend numerous activities offered by the resort.

The team's proactive assistance and attentive service were commendable; they anticipated our needs without requiring prompting, ensuring a seamless experience.

However, it's worth noting that the rooms appear somewhat outdated, and the shower's slow water heating and low pressure were noticeable drawbacks.

Additionally, the resort has become increasingly crowded since implementing day use or day pass options, resulting in a lack of privacy and limited space for in-house guests to enjoy beach facilities.

Addressing crowd control and avoiding overbooking for day passes could significantly enhance the overall guest experience.

Everything is excellent - facilities, food, beach front suite, service of staff, location! The spa by the beach is very nice! The only thing needed is to least asphalt the entrance to resort from the highway so that it is not too dusty for trike riders.

This hotel is barely a 3 star. It was originally called South Palms and taken over 1 month before we arrived. We were given the wrong room and they couldn't move us as they had no availability to put us in the room we booked. We asked for a refund and they advised to contact our travel agent which we did. Oceanica are still arguing with our agent and we haven't received a refund. We were booked in for 4 nights and we left after 1 and paid for an alternative hotel. The food was awful, the wine was warm. The restaurant staff had a couldn't be bothered attitude.

Room tip: Only good thing about this hotel is location.

This hotel was incredibly disappointing. The price is comparatively high but there are multiple serious issues with this hotel:
1. The hotel is COMPLETELY SWAMPED by outside guests. You cannot get a seat, sun bed, served food quickly - all because there is a swamp of outside people coming in. This is highly frustrating as you cannot use the pool or enjoy the environment, people come in and litter and ruin the place - it becomes more like a trashy beach club - if you are spending a lot of money as a hotel guest, think carefully.

2. Closely linked and due to the huge number of outside guests, when you go to breakfast, want a towel, order a drink - the staff are not interested in making you have a good experience, they immediately ask "what is your room number". Now we have stayed in many hotels all around the world, and never before have we been chased by staff to continually be asked what our room number is. This issue would be resolved if the controlled the swamp of outside people.

3. The rooms and accommodation is at best a 3 star
