If a busy beach with loud Karaoke bars, beach front restaurants and numerous hustlers trying to sell you "tours", counterfeit sun glasses etc. is your kind of tropical getaway, I'd recommend Alona Beach. For me it was a two days (and never again) experience.

A lot of bars and restaurants along the Alona beach but mostly expensive owing the large number of mainly foreign tourists in the area. If you're on a budget, I recommend you go off to the main road where, after a bit of a walk towards the local community church area, you will find several carinderias or food shops/ canteens serving good food at much lower prices.

And a little bit dirty too. I recommend to eat at Bohol bee which offers organic food and really nice ice creams . The beach is just ok , the views are quite good though . I thanked having stayed at the other side of the island .

The scenery is beautiful. There's no denying that. Alona beach is situated on a beautiful bay with islands on the horizon and amazing sunsets. The diving is great too.

It had all the makings of paradise. Then came the tourist industry... The beach is seriously noisy. It is packed with nondescript restaurants, pedlars, sad message parlours and really young children going from table to table begging for money. Some of them took a break sitting on a table next to us as they counted up their loot that consisted of a wad of bills with more than what most of the waiters in that restaurant make in a couple of months.

I love the Philippines. After visiting some of the quieter islands, Alona beach was a real shock to the system. Reminded me of the bad parts of Koh Samuai and Bali.

We've been to lots of beaches in Philippines and this was the worst one.
It's so busy and crowded with lots of Tourists, the water is not clean due to lots of boat hanging there. The beach area is really small.
The only good thing is its sunset and lots of food options around.
Most of resorts are in this area, so you won't get a quiet, local experience.
My only adwise is to find a travel agency if you want to try the island hopping. DON'T TRUST the local people showing you a picture for the island hopping, it's really cheap (400 piso per person) but only if you get the service.
They took our money and ditched us!
