We were looking forward to staying with SnowChateaux after trying, unsuccessfully, to do so for several years. Customer reviews are glowing, the website says all the right things. Unfortunately, our reality wasn't quite as expected.

On the plus side:
- The chalet itself was nice, the hot tub was a welcome addition, the kids loved having a TV and Playstation.
- Fantastic towels supplied, big and fluffy, probably the best we've had on a ski holiday.
- Wine and beer were freely available, unlike a lot of chalet operators.
- Our hosts were lovely, very friendly, good company and always helpful.

On the negative side:
- I booked our equipment/lift passes a few weeks before we travelled. The demands for immediate payment (both by phone and email) were aggressive and in marked contrast to the friendly manner when I booked the holiday.
- The floorplans are deceptive. Myself and my partner were in room 8, which looks spacious. However, you literally have to squeeze between the end of the bed and the wall.
- Room 6 is totally unsuitable for adults. We've stayed in plenty of chalets with limited head height because of eaves, but this room took 'limited' to a new dimension. Our friends' adult son was meant to stay in this room, but we had to put our two children in there instead – even then, my 14-year-old kept banging his head. You cannot stand upright in the bathroom. There is no storage space for clothes – I think guests are meant to use drawers on the landing, not so bad if you all know each other but not great if not.
- The catering was nowhere near as good as we believed from the website. Breakfast was frugal, never enough croissants for every guest, and portions small when it came to the cooked option. Dinner was not the fine dining experience promised – but then our chef (lovely as he was) was a pilot not a trained chef. Afternoon tea is billed as 'decadent' – this translated into two cakes, different shapes but the same cake.
- Six out of eight adult guests fell ill with D&V, starting on day 2 and going right through to the day we left – some of us lost at least a day on the slopes as a result. We were told that the chalet would be given a deep clean but really not sure it happened.

The most annoying thing – and the reason for such a low rating – is that I gave all this feedback to the company when we returned to the UK. My email was acknowledged with a promise to respond once they'd looked into things. I've since given them a number of reminders and am still waiting to have a meaningful conversation. Not even a sorry that we didn't have a great time.

Snowchateaux obviously know how to get it right a lot of the time – the positive reviews prove that. Sadly, it would seem that they really do not care if they don't get it right. Customer service is non-existent. They obviously have so many returning and new customers that there is no need to address the complaints of the few. Had they bothered to have the decency to respond to me, they might have had another opportunity to prove how good they can be – I'd much rather write a positive review.

Not surprisingly, we've booked with a different company for our 2018 trip!

We stayed at Ancolies Lodge in January 2017. This chalet has a fantastic communal area with plenty of comfortable sofas to lounge on. The views from the balcony from the dining area are superb.

The team at Ancolies Lodge were Alex, Rosie, and Luke and they did a fantastic job of looking after our needs. Unfortunately when we arrived the jaccuzi was not working, and indeed wasn't fixed until the 4th day of our stay, which was a shame.

The catering was superb - with one Vegan in our party, Alex did a great job accommodating this diet, and the food was fantastic with plenty of beer and wine flowing!

The only negative to our stay was that our 2 rooms were located on the floor with the kitchen and communal area. This meant that if people were partying late into the small hours, our sleep was disturbed. So if you like some peace, request that you aren't put in rooms 4 or 5.

With regard to the rooms, the rooms we stayed in were relatively small, but had very comfortable beds. The en-suite shower rooms were great - powerful showers and plenty of hot water, with complementary Arran Aromatics toiletries, and lovely white fluffy towels!

Snow Chateaux are a company who try their best to accommodate any requests and I would definitely recommend them.

This chalet was booked through snow chateaux, who we stayed with last year at castor chalet. An excellent company with excellent pre departure arrangements, lift pass, ski hire etc. Accommodating dietary requirements.the chalet is situated at the bottom end of a red run, that most people with some ski experience could manage, which takes you to the first lift, you can ski back to the door. The chalet is equipped with large boot room, lounge with TV, log fire cosy sofas, dining area. Free wifi Jacuzzi. The rooms are all pine and reasonable sized, with good size shower ( we had rm 3 downstairs) The food was excellent and very professionally presented thanks to chef mark, ably assisted by Iva and Sarah, with excellent wine choice with meals.Good breakfast selection with hot option, and a lovely cake to come back too!! Help, yourself to wine and beer, tea coffee. We will definitely book with snow chateaux again, they have several chalets in les coches and montchavin and would be happy to book any of them.

Having organised ski trips for the last 20 years for myself and friends, I know a good chalet from a bad one.

Ancolies Lodge was excellent in all aspects of the break from the attitude of the hosting team to creature comforts in the chalet. Being a foodie the quality of the meals is important to me and I was content after every meal.

The hot tub was a bonus and the views were exceptional. Well done snowchateaux for delivering first class accommodation.

Last spring break we enjoyed our holidays in ancolies lodge with 15 people. Views from the chalet are magnificent but also when you are in the jacuzzi . Living room is very cosy and comfortable with heatzd floor. We were lucky to have lots of snow and could ski onto the chalet. Catering was superb and serviced by our staff, liam and kara. Also the pick uo and delivery of ski material went so smoothly arranged by park manager john so that we had a magnificent holiday all together which we would like to enjoy a second time. The skicompanie from biggenaat.
