Almost our last stop after 3 weeks in Namibia and just when we thought it couldn’t get any better we arrive at Erongo. Now when I say better all I can say is it was just wonderful in a different way (so many people ask us what was the best place but it’s hard to say as each lodge provides something different). Erongo must rate as the most relaxing, it wasn’t busy during our stay which probably helped, I think maybe in total around 10 or 12 guests so no arguments about towels on sunbeds here! The tented suites are dotted around on the hillside and feel very private, as we were two couples travelling together they gave us a pair of suites with a communal “living” area between us. In reality we hardly used it as the pool and dining part of the camp is spectacular and we tended to hang out there. Two nights is probably sufficient unless you are really in need of chilling down. The walk up to the sunset view is a must but be warned it’s a scramble and only two of us made it up, this is also not for someone with vertigo (ME) but it was worth overcoming this, plus Kulus (spelling) guided us brilliantly and helped me on the slightly trickier descent (made more alarming by an approaching storm. We all thought the food was amongst the best we’d eaten during our holiday, they certainly it together a very good supper, and an astonishingly good breakfast. It never ceased to amaze us how these very remote locations managed to feed us so well with glorious fresh ingredients (the Erongo salad each night being a particular highlight). Elaine had been called in from head office to do a stint as manager and she was great, as was Herman who took us for an early morning walk with a wonderful knowledge of local birds, animals and plants. It was also the perfect place to relax, read a book, have a cocktail, look at the views and generally marvel in the silence which is the Namib desert.

Room Tip: Try and get relatively close to the dining and bar deck

I don't think there is any way to prepare you for how special Erongo Wilderness Lodge is. The scenery is simply stunning and unlike anything else I've seen. You will find yourself perched on a hill of enormous boulders and mountains formed by long-ago volcanic activity. The luxury tents are not just tents but have extensive outdoor space for you to enjoy. Ours had an outdoor shower, outdoor lounge-bed, small dining table, and another set of comfortable lounge chairs on a deck. I could happily live in that tent! The views are unbeatable.

The manager was incredibly welcoming and funny and made us feel right at home. We loved his unexpected bush-dog, Alaska the Pomeranian, and really enjoyed having a pet around the property! The pool area is small but cute and the pool was very refreshing. The food was wonderful–probably the best we had in Namibia. My husband raved about the game meat and how it was cooked and they catered well to my vegetarian needs.

We went on a guided sundowner hike in the evening to enjoy a stunning sunset view and also a morning hike to the top of one of the mountains. Both guides were very kind and knowledgable. We also did the nature drive to see the beautiful rock art in a cave and enjoyed all of these activities very much. We did not see much wildlife apart from rock dassies and baboons but did enjoy the lovebirds that visit the feeder by the restaurant in the morning, and the abundance of stunning scenery on the property will make any photographer very happy!

I was very sad to leave this lodge as it was such a special place to stay. I don't think there is anywhere like it in the world and I very much hope to return again.

Room Tip: All of the rooms look wonderful but we loved ours, tent 6!

Our stay at the Erongo Wilderness Lodge was the highlight of our Namibian holiday in terms of location, facilities and service - and the food was excellent. It is not a place for traditional "big game viewing", but it is a place to relax and enjoy the Erongo Mountains and the rambling/hiking trails, with the support of staff who could not have been more helpful..

We stayed here for two nights over new year's eve 2017/18.
The rooms are tented chalets, each set into the side of a mountain and very private. The bathrooms are built around the rocks / existing part of the mountain which is very cool! The rooms are very large (along with very large beds!) and each have a deck area, and steps leading up to room (note: I don't think this property is suitable for guests with mobility issues).
The location is stunning - in the middle of some of the most spectacular scenery we saw in Namibia. They offer free walks included in the room price, which I strongly recommend - it's worth getting up early for the 6am walk.
Food is of a good standard and there is a good wine list too, including from the nearby Erongo Mountain Winery. At 4-6 every day there is also coffee / cake and other snacks which is a nice touch.
The property manager (Doe?) was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and we had a great time on NYE staying up by the campfire chatting.
Pool area is small but nice and with plenty of shade. Lots of outdoor seating and places to lounge around too.

We had a couple of very relaxing days at Erongo Wilderness Lodge in November 2017. Guides and management were very relaxed and helpful when needed. We spent most of our time enjoying the nature and its sounds from our tent’s terrace. Definitely recommended to stop by.
