We had a wonderful stay here , the rooms are excellent with great views.
Lots do do locally with great walks and runs.
The pool was a bit cold but it is January at 2000m!
If anything there was too much food , we were on half board and felt we had to have 3 courses which was too much! Managed without lunch.
Nizwa on a Friday definitely worth the 1 1/2 hour drive to see , parking during the cattle market a bit difficult though

My family of 6 stayed at the Alila in December 2021. We really enjoyed some aspects of the hotel but also left with mixed feelings due to various service issues.

Pros:

1. The views are amazing in every direction. The vista just outside the lobby is amazing!
2. The accommodations are quite nice. We used Hyatt suite upgrades to enjoy the Jabal Terrace rooms which had ample outdoor space - so much so that there was no need to go to the pool area. The bath products are well-scented and luxurious, and the beds are very comfortable.
3. The spa and gift shop have an excellent selection of products and a really wonderful staff. We enjoyed dropping in a few times and also purchased some essential oils and jewelry to bring home.
4. Drivers to and from Muscat were friendly and safe for the long journey.
5. Food was of a good quality. Servers in the restaurants were quite friendly.
6. Housekeeping services were fantastic - efficient and flexible.

Cons:

1. Really it’s all about the front desk/reception. The operation up there is so comically disorganized but unfortunately as the nerve center of the hotel it can affect just about everything. Some examples:

- we signed up with the reception for the geology tour. They entered our name into the computer and said we should return to the lobby at the tour time. So we did, and they told us to sit on the couch till the guide arrived. 30 mins after the tour time, no one has said anything and no guide has shown up. I inquire with the desk again and they have no answers and were too busy to even make a phone call. We just got up and left. No offer to rebook us.

- at check in, we noticed the hotel had several mistakes on the paperwork. Names wrong, Hyatt numbers missing, check out date wrong. We found this odd as we booked all 3 rooms on a Hyatt app under one account and we had confirmed all the details with the hotel before arrival. They hurried us through and said everything was fine and they had our check out date correct in the system. Big mistake. The rest of the trip we made numerous calls to ask why the globalist in the group hadn’t received a welcome gift, the front desk was calling all 3 rooms asking us to check out on the wrong day, etc.

- I emailed the desk two days before check out to set up an airport transfer. They asked a follow up question, which I answered, then they didn’t respond. I then went to the desk and confirmed a checkout with the man working that shift. The next day, the front desk calls two of the rooms asking whether we need an airport transfer and at what time.

- at checkout, all of the paperwork is still wrong and we’re earning about half of the Hyatt points we should be. The people at the desk didn’t know how to remedy the situation, and when we asked to speak to a manager, they offered to give us the manager’s email address. Luckily we worked it out on the phone with World of Hyatt later. The WoH agent was in awe, as he had never seen a hotel screw up a bill this badly.

We were ultimately happy to visit this hotel and enjoy the surroundings, but it’s unfortunate when you spend so much energy trying to clean up the mess that is the front desk operation. Usually 5 star hotels at this rate have their act together or there is a general manager who is present and able to fix issues quickly. However, we never saw a general manager around and hence there was no way to catch a break. We’d definitely not return to the hotel in its current state.

We spent 4 amazing nights at the Alila. We had a great room with out of the world views. The staff could not have been more friendly. And the spa treatments were first class. Overall not to be missed.

Unique and stunning location ; the hotel is also a marvel of architecture and beautifully designed with a lot of attention to detail and the materials employed are very qualitative all round- the grounds are extensive with a lovely trail to discover nature ; the staff is very helpful, amicable and discreet ; many activities can be organized to suit individual tastes; this is a very special place for the discerning traveller , probably the best hotel I have ever stayed at;
