Flight down and back pd three times the price for premium economy and both times they did not sit my wife and I together … obviously couldn’t care less when there are only 8 seats and there is other singles but they separate us…terrible system

Extremely disappointed in this airline. A decline in customer service has been noticeable over the years however this latest experience takes the cake. We boarded in Honolulu at midnight Dec 19 (already 2 hours delayed). We sat on the plane for 3 hours before takeoff. The waitress said maintenance was working to fix the bathroom and had to go back and forth for tools. Believe it or not, the bathroom was still out of commission when we took off at 3am. Of course, we missed our connecting flight as a result. In Vancouver I asked WestJet staff what we could do to get home. After getting passed to someone else for the third time I was told my family (I'm with my wife and 2 children) were bumped to fly home Dec 21st at 10pm. Meanwhile, the other passengers on the plane were getting boarded to Kelowna at 2pm that very day. I know this because my in-laws who we were traveling with were bumped to that flight. I explained that I had to work and couldn't stay in Vancouver for 2 days but the young lady at the counter didn't seem to care and gave us a hotel voucher and didn't even try. I was flustered and stressed and there was nothing I could say to get her to try to help us get home. As I walked away she was chuckling with her friend. What a joke. I called customer support from the hotel and after about an hour on the phone we were given seats on that evening's flight at 10pm. That flight also delayed until 12:30am but at least we got home. I missed out on several hundred dollars because I missed work, I had to Uber home ($100) from the airport because my in-laws were our ride and they left on an earlier flight, and I was out of pocket for several meals. I took the time to submit expenses (with receipts) to WestJet and also file a passenger rights claim. They replied a week or so later telling me there's nothing they are willing to do as it was an unscheduled maintenance situation. No, I won't fly WestJet again.
PS - In the early years of WestJet they were known for their exceptional service levels. I actual wrote an essay and presented on this in my Organizational Behavior class in university many years ago. What the heck happened?
The strike disruption on Canada long weekend was almost criminal and the “respectful” decline on compensating my family the thousands of dollars it costed to rebook flights makes me sick. Sure I got a refund on the cheap flight fee I paid but where’s the compensation for the stress, agony and thousands I had to pay so I didn’t loose more on the accommodations I already paid for. Plus the vacation time booked from work that couldn’t be rescheduled.
Based on news reports this strike could’ve been prevented but the greediness of the executive team thought is best to risk customer experience and money.
This airline makes me sick. They’re all terrible but WestJet is the worst. If you enjoy risking time and money and working with criminal organizations this airline is for you.
Flew with WJ and in America ,Delta . We had alerted them in Halifax that we both had walking issues . We were met at every stop , 6 in the round trip , and without that help we would have had a problem getting where we needed to be . On board we were OK with the seating , all aircraft could use a bigger seat !! All in all , I was impressed . The Bad West Jet was not what we had .
Westjet used to be a decent airline. Now like all the others they nickel and dime you for every little thing. 8hr flight with no in flight entertainment and they lost our luggage. We spent an hour in the airport trying to fill out their online missing bags report which didn't work. We then had to call several times to see what was happening and got different answers. We had 0 clothes or bathing suits and no Walmart or any other store nearby and had to shop on resort which doesn't give receipts (we were told we didn't need itemized receipts). They then tell us they'll give us a refund up to $400. Once we got back they tell us it's only a travel credit. We then go to use said credit and book another trip. Thankfully I looked at my credit card because they charged me $800 instead of $200. When we call they tell us it was our fault and the best they can do is cancel our flights and issue another travel credit. How come it's so easy to take my money but not refund it?
