“Never will I ever…”
Review of Southwest Airlines

Reviewed August 30, 2022

I will not…book with them again. First flight was canceled due to weather. I truly kind of expected it. Got rebooked, cool. As my daughter and I were waiting to board, I received a text that we were rebooked to a flight the next day. I went to ask the service agent what was going on and was told that I should have checked in when I got there. I told her I did check him with the gentleman and he printed out and gave us our boarding passes. They then proceeds to tell me that they gave our seats to two stand by! All of this while our flight is boarding! Who does that! Now they are scrambling to get us back on the plane and realizes that my connecting flight no longer has seats and now we are truly rebooked for a flight the very next day in a dofferent city. We are now just sitting here at the airport over night, no food, no warmth and no protection. No apologies no nothing. The service agent at the BWI airport didn’t even believe me when I was telling her what happened. She did attempt to get us a hotel room by saying they’re all out of rooms but when I called the hotel, the young lady said they had plenty of rooms. I’ve lost sleep, money on a nights stay at the hotel I booked and a day worth of rental car fees! To top it off, they put us in the very last boarding group to board the plane. None of this is acceptable! Please do better. I called and spoke to an agent on southwest.com and she told me to send an email to southwest.com in a very stern voice as if I did something wrong. If the calls are recorded I spoke to an agent at 1:22 am in 800-435-9792.

Southwest airlines is great! The complimentary drinks, and snacks were amazing. Getting on and off the plane was a simple and easy process, and was very quick as well. The flight attendants were nice and made funny jokes along the way which made the flight a ton more enjoyable. The pilot also made some funny remarks which eased the mood of the flight. Overall a great experience.

I recently traveled to Cabo San Lucas in the beginning of the month. I was meeting a bigger group of my friends so I was flying alone. Being a female flying internationally is a bit scary. When I got on my first flight in MN our plane didn’t make it off the runway. There were some maintenance issues that had to be addressed and we were all told to exit the plane. As disappointed as I was I was also grateful that the pilot put the passages safety first.

I, amongst other travelers, was concerned about being on time for our connecting flights. We were ask to go to the customer service desk and they would call us up by flights. When it was my turn I was greeted by a friendly smile and women who was very determined to help. She was so helpful and patient with me. I told her I just needed to get to my friends ASAP. I will never forget how she went above and beyond to help me feel safe and her effort to get me to my friends. I got on a plane and flew to Denver. The staff at the Denver airport working the Southwest desk were just as helpful. I ended up making it safely to my destination only 3 hours after the time I was originally supposed to be there. I will forever be grateful for Nikki from Southwest. Because of her I will always fly Southwest.

Once again Southwest Airlines has shown that they do not care about customer service. The plane was late starting out which is usual for Southwest. I can't remember the last time one of their flights was on time. I started in Milwaukee and flew to Denver. Once we were in Denver the transfer flight was 1 and 1/2 hours late taking off. They had a maintenance crew on board repairing a problem. This seems to happen often so I wonder if they do preventive maintenance or wait for something to break before they address it. When I arrived in Las Vegas they had lost my luggage. I was told that it is not unusual because Denver is such a big airport. There were about 20 other passengers that had their luggage lost also. If they know about this luggage transfer problem, FIX THE PROBLEM. I went home and waited for their call to say they found my luggage which was about 3 hours after my flight landed. When I returned to the airport they said they were still looking for it. 2 hours later I finally received my luggage from them. and it looked like it was dragged around the runway. If at all possible use another airline.

Pre-pandemic I was a Southwest Preferred A list traveler. As I returned to frequent flying at the end of 2021 I was really disappointed with Southwest. When booking as a preferred traveler, or when buying a 1 to 15 boarding position, here’s what happened every time I flew: preboarding has become an industry. Anyone willing to lie about a qualifying condition goes to the head of the Southwest boarding line. I saw more than 20 people preboard on my flight from DCA to Ft Lauderdale, effectively using up the first four rows of aisle seats.

The only benefit of frequently flying with Southwest has been access to the cabin upon boarding. The value of that benefit is seriously eroded when 10 percent of the passengers get to board first, before preferred A list passengers.

Nothing prevents Southwest from treating preboarders the same way families are treated, allowing them to board in between the A and B groups. Until this practice changes there is no tangible benefit to being loyal to Southwest.
