“Business class is a joke and a swindle”
Review of Philippine Airlines (PAL)

Reviewed October 21, 2024

The business class was only a business class by name. The seat didnt recline, there were no screen to watch anything but they distributed small tablet with cheap earphone.
A complete disappointement as I travel business class since I can developp blood clot if i remain seating down for a long time. I will never ever travel with this company

I was unable to upgrade to business class as it was full.

As PAL lacks sufficient refurbished Airbus A330s, it gas hired two planes from Spain's Wamos Air.

The flight crew were Spanish. Three flight attendants were from Wamos and five including the gardworking purser were from PAL.

The flight departed three minutes early, arriving Manila 35 early at 1240 local time.

Service on board was good with breakfast and two hours prior to landing a substantial snack served.

They canceled my flight. I had to book one the day before which left me with over 36 hours layover in San Fransisco. I lost a day of my vacation and I was left stranded. I reached out to them for a hotel voucher and maybe some meal vouchers but they refused. It took them several weeks of giving me the run around and blowing me off. They were intentionally referencing incorrect flights. Absolute incompetence and just a greedy corporation. Use someone else if you are able.

I have always dreaded flying Philippine Airlines because the stories I heard from friends who used the carrier. Bangkok-Manila-Bangkok is around 3 hours flight. I chose Philippine Airlines because it's the only airline that uses Terminal 1 & 2 in the Philippines. Other international airlines are diverted to Terminal 3. The problem with Terminal 3 is that it's crowded plus there's a very very long walk from the Gates to the terminal, whilst Terminals 1 & 2 had a very short walk. My flight from Bangkok to Manila was a pleasant one, no flight delay, the meal was not excellent but it was OK, and the flight entertainment was functioning quite well (I was told some PAL airlines' entertainment were not working).

My flight back to Bangkok was a very horrible experience. All throughout the flight, the whole cabin smelled, especially when passengers used the lavatory. I was not able to finish my meal since I lost my appetite due to the bad smell. One certain passenger (seated at 59C) even made a mess after he used the facility, the worst part was he left the door open. While this was happening all the aircrew were behind the the cabin, most probably trying to avoid the foul smell. They only attended to the situation because we were about to descend so one of the airhostesses cleaned up the mess.

It was unfortunate that this happened and I hope Philippine Airlines will train it's cabin crew on how to handle such incident.
