After years of disliking AA because of poor customer service on every level, I now have another HUGE reason NEVER to fly them again! My husband and I are currently scheduled to fly out of Orlando tomorrow morning. Because of hurricane Ian, and the likelihood of the airport being closed tomorrow, we phoned AA to see about changing our flight to today, or to fly out of another regional airport. There was one flight out of Melbourne, but AA declared they would charge us an additional $785 for us to change our flight. My husband flys across the country each week, thus has status with AA (not that that actually means something anymore), but still not enough to warrant decent customer service, or prevent AA from extorting its loyal customers!! I fly Delta and United (have status with both) and this just reinforces my preference. Now my husband finally decided to boycott American Airlines too!!! American Airlines does not care about its customers… their actions and poor customer service demonstrate nothing else!

Very rude flight attendant. No ear buds on board, therefore unable to use in-flight entertainment on a three hour flight. American replied that ear buds "not guaranteed" for first class. Flight attendant told us to use our layover time in Chicago to find our own ear buds for onward flight to Wash DC.

Myself and my husband recently went on honeymoon and flew with your airline. We were very much looking forward to this trip for months. It was a fiasco from start to finish. We flew on September 5th from Dublin connecting through London Heathrow flying to Miami. When we arrived we were informed to log a baggage claim as neither of our bags had arrived. We spoke to a clerk and logged the claim. The clerk not only logged the claim under the wrong name, she also added the wrong bag tags and phone number so we would never have been contacted she mixed up our claim with someone else who had lost their bags through Denver which isn’t great for them because if they were ever found they were going to our hotel. We didn’t get any updates for 2 days we had no clothes, toiletries nothing. We were both extremely stressed upset and disappointed which wasn’t helped by the disastrous customer service we received. I finally spoke to a nice gentleman on the phone 2 days later who located my bag my husbands was still lost with no tracking data available. He informed me they’d located my bag it was in Miami airport we were flying the next day to cancun so he put a note on my file I would pick it up in person from the office the next day but he had to log a brand new claim for us because all of the information was wrong. When we arrived to the airport we went to the office and were informed the bag wasn’t there and it was going through to cancun, I logged a request to get the bag pulled off so I could switch the clean clothes to my hand luggage and check back on. The girl logged this never telling me this could take up to 4 hours our flight was leaving in 3. We then had to cancel the request for the bag to hopefully go onto cancun although we were not optimistic. We were deferred onto person after person who
Kept telling us something different. We wanted to make sure my bag would go all the way to cancun and would not be pulled we didn’t really receive that assurance. We have spent so much money and our holiday time on buying the essentials just to get by on our trip with no updates on my husbands bag still and we are now home mine did arrive in cancun but the handle was broken so the case is now useless.
My husbands bag is yet to turn up we have been endlessly chasing for an update nobody has taken ownership of the issue or have been able to give us any real updates yet.
It is an absolute disgrace how this has been handled and we will never fly with you again logistical issues happen but the customer service and the way this situation was handled was appalling and took away from our trip of a lifetime

As I stated with my other connecting flight review, American had previously been a nightmare for me with seat assignment and lost baggage issues. However, every single department did a sensational job, through my international journey. I was an airline supervisor for 10 years, so I am aware of each department expectations are, and they were flawless. My seats were what I had reserved, and my bag showed up at my destination, which is very important when you are traveling abroad!

In the past, American Airlines has been a real nightmare, especially with messing up my seat assignment and losing my bag, a whooping 65% of the time. Therefore, I quit flying with them for a while. They had the best overall value to my destination, so I gave them another chance. All of the American Airlines department employees did a sensational job in all areas. I volunteered to take an emergency aisle seat with no extra cost and my bag showed up upon my arrival. This is really important because if your bag always gets lost to your foreign destination it is a major inconvenience, instead of losing it when you are going home. I worked in the airlines as a supervisor for 10 years, and they definitely made all of the expectations with the entire flight!
