Let me start with a positive. I cannot remember a more friendly and accommodating set of aircrew. The service we received from the cabin crew was superb, we were travelling with a 7-year old and they just ‘got it’.
This was just as well because check-in at Manchester was the polar opposite.
We’re on a BA Business ticket and this was a co-share. We had no ability to pre book seats.
We were at check-in 3 hours before and already there were long lines. For 4 desks there were 3 for economy and 1 for business/priority. After 1 hour the business line barely moved and most of economy that joined when we did had gone.
I spoke to the supervisor and suggested that maybe they do a 2 & 2 desk strategy and she said, “this is not what the airline wants” and walked away.
When we eventually got to check in a guy called Yannis dealt with us. I asked if the 3 seats were together and he said yes. When we received the boarding passes we were dotted about the cabin and they were expecting a 7-year old to sit on her own.
He told me to step aside and I refused and said surely as a customer I had a right to be truthfully dealt with and not fobbed off. He shouted, “you’re not my customer” and walked off. The supervisor then came to take over and apologised for him shouting.
She changed the seats very quickly. As we left check in we saw Yannis who got really aggressive and shouted he was calling the police.
@Aerlingus you have lovely crew but if that is the experience that your passengers are getting by the ground staff then you have a major issue.
It took 2.5 hours to get through check-in and security.
Whatever anyone’s view is on people flying business, this was our family holiday that we worked hard and saved for and you expect better treatment than this.
I would be wary of every using Manchester airport again, there was a real edginess to the whole experience and I heard the ‘calling the police’ line again when going through security, albeit not directed at me.
