Review of Virgin Australia

Reviewed October 17, 2023

We had a terrible start to our 7.15am flight with entry to arrival's blocked by a truck accident. On arrival we had missed our flight to Perth. Anna and Peter at the Virgin check in desk went above and beyond to assure we made it to Perth by booking us via Adelaide. It saved us a whole day waiting at Sydney airport. They were under pressure by both other customers and a manager speaking down to them terribly in front of us and other customers but kept their cool and a smile on their faces at all times. Highly commend them both, they are an asset to Virgin. I am a frequent flyer and can say their kindness at a stressful time will always be remembered and appreciated. Thankyou

On the morning of our flight 20/08/2023 Virgin messaged that our flight was re-scheduled for 3 hours later that day. No that big a deal, except our friends travelling with us did not get this message. Hours on phone to Virgin we were told that the plane had to take on extra fuel and we were randomly selected to be taken off the flight. We explained we had transfers paid for with our friends to no avail. We paid in October the year before and paid extra for exit row seats and had been allocated seats 13A & 13B. Surprise, our friends saw two large men in our seats on this flight. We have since been told by Virgin employees that if people pay more they bump the lowest paying passenger/s off the flight. We paid with Travel Bank credit. After refusing to pay our taxi fare home from the airport, several long phone calls and emails over several weeks they eventually paid the $75, but still stuck to the rubbish about extra fuel and we were bumped off the flight because of the extra weight? even though two men were in our seats. Customer service agents Julia, Sariza Galo and Jasmin Macaraeg continued sticking to this ludicrous story to the end.

Flight cancelled the day before the flight with no alternative given. Absolutely horrifying. We were flying from Europe on another 2 flights so we had no internet connection. Thank God Jetstar had seats so we got home.
Flight VA78 from Tokyo Haneda to Cairns (Cairns is not in the options above as destination so put Brisbane instead).

Flew to Perth with Virgin in July from Sydney and always choose Virgin as they have been far more reliable than competitors.
Now it’s October and flying at a premium to Melbourne for a funeral (school hols and AFL/NRL weekend). Bumped from Sydney to Melbourne leg with the flight afterwards cancelled. Very stressful standing at Sydney Airport fearing I am not going to make my poor cousins funeral. Return flight from Melbourne to Sydney was delayed with the flights before and after ours cancelled. Seems like Virgin are not copying the practices of Jetstar and cramming people into a single flight and cancelling flights either side. Poor form and a real shame as this airline was always considered above that practice.
