“Efficient, Pleasant Flights”
Review of Icelandair

Reviewed September 28, 2024

My husband and I had a very good trip on Icelandair. Both our flight to and from Reykjavik were smooth and efficient, both times landing about a half hour before we were estimated to arrive. They do not provide a free meal with the flight, but all non-alcoholic drinks are free. Headphones are available for purchase for using the in-flight entertainment system, so I would recommend bringing your own! My husband and I aren't necessarily frequent flyers, so I can't really speak to it's superiority or inferiority over other airlines for seat upgrades and the like, but I do know that we had a pleasant, uneventful, and efficient flight to and from the land of fire and ice!! Would fly with them again! The only other thing that I would say is that boarding from Keflavik Airport Gate D was a bit disorganized and crowded, but I believe the airport is making efforts to fix the situation, so that issue may be rectified soon!

Do not fly with this airline. Their tickets are not competitively priced AND they don't provide meals. They make you pay extra for seat assignments and baggage. By the time that you pay for all of this, you may as well have gone on another airline. Furthermore, the "class up" is a joke. NEVER use it. If you have to change your travel dates, you will lose your money, if they accepted your offer. Their seats are too close together with such a little amount of leg room that it's even dangerous to try to exit quickly in an emergency. This is such a greedy airline. If you chose to do a stopover, Iceland has little to offer in terms of tourism and it's very expensive to rely upon the transportation to an from the airport. NOT WORTH IT! If Icelandair had more competitive prices and their seats weren't so close together, it might be worth using their services, but this is not the case.

My wife and I had a negative experience with Iceland air for our honeymoon. We had to book a ticket through a different airline 1 way, and not use the icelandair departing flight, so they canceled our entire flight including the returning flight, without any heads up, so we didn't figure out til the day before we leave to return home that Icelandair canceled our tickets. I found out by trying to check in and it wouldn't allow us. They also wouldn't issue any sort of refund for the inconvenience. $1500 worth of tickets I couldn't use, and Icelandair customer service didn't help at all. I will not book through them again due to lack of customer service and not willing to refund any money for a ticket that wasn't used.

Icelandair imposes extra fees for virtually every aspect of the flight experience. From seat selection to basic amenities like earphones and even meals, passengers are constantly pressured to pay extra for services that should be standard. Most of the shows have no subs, seats are not assigned at check-in but when arrive at airport, which almost mean split seating unless you pay. This nickel-and-diming feels like an extortion tactic, forcing passengers to shell out more just to ensure a comfortable or even functional flight experience. The lack of transparency and the stress of potentially not sitting with your party unless you pay for seats only adds to the frustration. This approach significantly diminishes the overall value and satisfaction of flying with Icelandair.

1) seat felt very, very cramped. Very little leg room. Travel partner found an empty seat across the aisle to make the flight bearable.
2) Could barely understand announcements. FA's have a tendency to repeat the same phrases with each flight and the announcements are almost mechanical and difficult to understand.
3) had pre-ordered and pre-paid for certain food on the return flight which was never served. Hope someone else enjoyed the dessert.
4) In Europe, gate number released 30-40 minutes before boarding which caused a crush at the gate as PAX attempted to board. Also, gate was a remote stand which involved a shuttle bus crammed to the gills to accommodate 250 PAX for a wide body jet (B767). A 2nd shuttle run will have eased the entire boarding process at the remote gate.
