“Golf clubs included as part of baggage”
Review of Sharp Airlines

Reviewed 2 weeks ago via mobile

A group of golfers recently used sharp airlines to visit the golf courses on King island. Although we were told that golf clubs travelled free and not part of your baggage limit of 21 kgs management subsequently changed their policy.

Your baggage limit is 21 kgs and with your golf clubs weighing in at say 15 kgs it does not leave room for much else. Excess baggage is $4.00 a kg so be warned.

To their credit they did not charge the excess baggage either way even when the return flight was full. The flight was pleasant leaving and arriving on time. Staff were cooperative and friendly.

There is a free pick up and drop off from Essendon airport to and from Tullamarine but you have to pre book and with a taxi costing $40 check out this option.

Also sharp airlines will arrange your car rental golf course bookings and accommodation so use their service as it saved a lot of time for the organiser.

Despite the initial hiccup with the golf clubs we found them very efficient and only to happy to help where they could.

Returning on a Friday was a no problem activity. We were told to leave our hire car at the airport car park, with keys in (like most islands where is it going to go?), check in was a breeze. Waiting room had a "coffee machine", some seating & rest rooms. Very relaxed atmosphere watching Styrofoam boxes of probably rock lobsters being sent to MEL for weekend diners. Having been on the island for 5 nights we saw nothing piscatorial or crustacean, despite the eye candy on the Flinders Island website. Flight was fine, I really like the sound of those turboprops powering up. Upon arrival, at Essendon by the way, luggage was off loaded pretty quickly & the shuttle was waiting to take us to Tullamarine for our connecting flight.

First of all it has taken more than 1 month since my request for TA to actually list Sharp so, from what I recall, this flight originates from Essendon airport, with a free shuttle from Tullamarine, which arrived mostly on time !
The Metroliner, I was advised by my GP, ex RAAF, was called the flying pencil but I think cigar tube is more appropriate. As mentioned if you are over 160cm you need to stoop, a la Giza Pyramids, to move up the fuselage. Were never offered ear plugs & not sure about value for $, however, the seats were comfortable & those turboprops make an incredible sound & the plane can really move, it looks vaguely art deco & is totally aerodynamic. Check in was fine, actually requested ID, not the case from BNE to MEL ???, & of course the luggage was limited but manageable. The only negative was they decided, for operational reasons, to bring forward the Sunday ETD which meant we had to pay for an overnight in MEL & pay obscene fees to change our QF booking, I trust the ACCC will eventually do something about this rip off which contributes to the little Irish poofters income ! I have left some info on Flinders in the travel blog, most of which TA will not publish as their algorithms do not compute !, BUT, do not arrive on a Sunday as everything in Whitemark is geschollen !

Regional airline flying out of Essendon. Our plane was a twin engined Metroliner. Acessed by a steep ladder and not much room inside, impossible to stand up, but adequate.Plane carries about 20 people in a 1x1 configuration. The plane has a captain and co pilot. It is fully pressurised and flys at about 25,000ft. Luggage allowance is 15 kg plus 6kg in hand luggage. Recommend that all luggage be stowed due to the confines of the cabin.
From check in to arrival the staff were very pleasant and accommodating. The flight was smooth, a little noisy and earplugs are provided. extremely good value for money and would not hesitate to fly Sharp airlines again.
