Sol CL no longer Sol ?
Save

Talking to a couple of workers from CL currently at home on Isla. They have been told Melia is not renewing their contract on the Sol. It will be run run by Gran Caribe similar to the others (Pelicano, Iguana, Bella Isla, etc.) Haven't seen anything yet to confirm, Cuban rumour maybe, just have to wait and see.

I believe that would mean all of the resorts offered to Canadians would be managed by Gran Caribe? It probably makes sense for Sol to drop their only property on the Cayo.

Absolutely correct, But for some it may give fear that it is not run by an of outside of Cuba chain. We now have to see if true and how it turns out.. Time will tell, on what the future holds. Like I said, right now, just Cuban scuttlebutt. But if it is advertised as the Hotel Cayo Largo .............

Cuban resorts are run by Cubans no matter what name is over the door. In many cases there are only a couple of staff who work for the lessee, the head chef and the GM are the usuals. The rest of the operations are run by Cuban management.

I hope Sol maintains the edge they've had in booze and food over some other resorts to hold their position as #1 on the island. But who knows what things will look like once this shiit storm is over.

Not surprised, Melia has not put a whole lot of cash into their resorts overs the years We have stayed in Melia , or Sol in 4 areas of Cuba. Always promises but nothing.

As Spunky mentioned, the damage from this shet storm can’t help!

Gran Caribe has made several physical improvements to the Bella Isla and especially the Villa Iguana over the past 3 years or so. At a snails pace but es Cuba.

There is something to be said about Unique ness of “non chain” resorts . Or smaller hotels that keep it simple.

That’s why we love Cayo Largo . Can’t see the Mega resorts putting a spade in the ground here and sure as Hell hope they don’t.

I think cayo largo needs a new resort, seems everything even the sol is very run down.

Yet, the resorts are usually full in high season. I think many people would sleep in a pup tent if that's what Cayo Largo had for them.

A new resort? Sure Why not .

As long as the Security isn’t too high, which would allow friends to visit as long as they’re bringing gifts like Absolute Vodka! Haha . Some day I’ll return the favour, K.
