Hello! My husband, and I and our 13 year old daughter will be visiting Yosemite June 9-11. We fly into Oakland on the 8th and have a hotel booked in Merced that night. The morning of the 9th, we plan to start at Mariposa Grove and do the lower hike to see Grizzly Giant etc. Then drive to the valley stopping at Tunnel View and Bridalveil falls if open. We will then check into Yosemite Valley Lodge and maybe check out lower Yosemite Falls trail. Day 2: Drive to the trailhead parking lot and hike the mist trail to vernal falls and back down the John Muir Trail. After that, we will need to rest a bit. Later in the day, we would like to hike to Sentinel Dome and then to Glacier Point for sunset. A little worried about parking in the late afternoon? Day 3: Mirror Lake and/or Cooks Meadow and then drive back to OAK to drop off the rental car and head into SF for a few days. Any advice or suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

On the way back to Oakland/San Francisco go see Columbia State Park - good historic park in Sonora. Good place to break up the trip. See Muir Lake in morning before you depart Yosemite.

Late afternoon should be fine for the Sentinel Dome Trail parking lot and Glacier Point. No worry there.

Hi

Good job with your planning!

June 9:

Mariposa Grove ~ From Merced, drive to Mariposa, then Oakhurst, then the South Entrance. Do you know that your tourism starts with a two mile walk on the road or the Washburn Trail from the Welcome Plaza to the Arrival Area, then you begin the hike / walk to the Grizzly Giant? Currently folks stay on the road for most of the 'walk' to the Grizzly Giant. There are still fallen trees on the boardwalk trail.

Great idea to stop at Tunnel View. Your parking is on the RIGHT after the tunnel.

I hope Bridalveil Fall is open, but .....

Lower Yosemite Falls is a good idea. Also consider a stroll on a meadow trail.

June 10:

Clark Point: Good that you know you'll have a challenging hike ahead of you. If you have your picnic lunch with you, consider walking over the bridges in Happy Isles to enjoy a quiet secluded picnic near the river. Or just go back to the car and drive. (I prefer picnics over standing in line to buy food.)

Sentinel Dome: the 'secret' shortcut parking should work well for you. Also stop at Washburn Point and look far to the right to see Illilouette Fall. Then on to Glacier Point. Sunset may be around 8:15, but it's the light on the face of Half Dome that can be lovely. I suggest being there by 7:30.

June 11:

If you're up for it, consider walking the Valley Loop Trail to the Ahwahnee, then alongside the Royal Arches, on to Mirror lake / Meadow, then take the bike path back to your car at Yosemite Valley Lodge. Or move the car closer ... maybe to the Yosemite Valley Visitor Parking. It would be an even shorter walk if you parked at the Ahwahnee.

There are many hiking resources & maps. Some are in the Top questions on the right. Full TripAdvisor Website. Here is a hiking map of the Valley:

.

It is possible that you could drop your car at a rental car location in San Francisco rather than at OAK. It might be worth checking. (Drive from Yosemite to your SF hotel. Drop luggage. Drive to nearby rental car location. Walk back to hotel.)
