We will be in NOLA, staying in the Bywater, for my Bday Feb 14 - 19 and I'm excited to see that the Krewe du Vieux Parade is the 16th. Where is the best place to watch the parade in the Marigny? And do people costume for this? Thank you!

Not sure where you should watch along the Parade Route in the Marigny, but I would think anywhere along the route in the Marigny would be way better than seeing it in the French Quarter, where it will be too crowded.
Frenchmen Street is VERY crowded so I think I would avoid that... It usually starts up near Mimi’s so that might be a fun place to watch. The least crowded place we’ve watched from is on Decatur between Governor Nichols and Esplanade.
Two years ago we went to the Barkus Ball and I was under the impression that it was a costume party.... it wasn’t (we were THAT couple)! After an hour or so of feeling uncomfortable in pirate costume, we hit the street and the crowd of the Krewe du Vieux revelers and felt right at home! New Orleans is the best!!
Edited: 5 years agoThanks to both! I searched and saw a mention of Franklin St area a few years back so was thinking by Mimi's may be the place and then have tapas after. I'm a newbie to parades so how early would you recommend going to get a good spot?
Seriously LOL re: your Barkus Ball adventure, Tenkey!! Where else can you costume every day just for the heck of it if you want to?? I have a political tshirt or two and thinking that may be good to wear...with a tutu and feather boa of coarse!
One year, I tried to watch on Royal in the FQ, so crowded! Then moved over to Decatur near Governor Nicholas, and no crowd at all. I think it ebbs and flows, but I just don't have enough experience yet. It's a great Parade!
I’ve got a “Bobby Jindal 2016 Tanned Rested and Ready” tee shirt.... I’m just afraid people wouldn’t recognize the sarcasm...... yet.
The Franklin St area is a good place to watch.
LOL again, Tenkey! I think it's time to wear it...
Cambridgtravler, I am pretty sure you had recommended Franklin St in the post I read. Thank you - I think we have a plan.
Yes, the parade turns from Franklin onto Royal Street and we usually watch somewhere near that turn, ;either on Franklin or on Royal. Besides being near where I live, it is great to be near the beginning of the parade because it makes for a nice evening with dinner after.
That sounds perfect, Cambridgtravler! What time do you recommend to stake out a spot in that area?
