Portland hotels

We are visiting Portland in the November 22 week with 2 kids. Can you recommend the areas we should stay in? Thanks.

I just posted about my recent stay downtown with two kids (13 & 16). We walked to Powells, Voodoo, Midtown Beer Garden, took light rail a lot. That said, it got very quiet after dark, walking along Burnside after dark freaked out my 13 yo (it was edgy in spots), and I think downtown will be extra quiet that holiday week perhaps? YMMV.

It depends a great deal on the ages of the kids, and whether you'll move around entirely as a family, or if the kids are teens who'll go out on their own.

In most cases I'd recommend downtown, but as noted, there are limited things to do there in the evenings on a holiday week, other than restaurants and a couple of movie theatres. Another recommendation is "Nob Hill" -- eg the Inn @ Northtup, in a more residential neighborhood, but close to shopping on NW 23rd and NW 21st, as well as a few all-ages places.

Yet another idea is the Kennedy School in NE Portland, as more of a self-contained space, as it has movies, game rooms, etc.

As always, your budget and other factors make it impossible to make a better recommendation.

Downtown Portland in most cases but those hotels tend to be more expensive as well.

How important is quiet to you? Access to transit? Breakfast? I'd research a travel site (like this one or booking.com with your own filters.)

Read reviews -- especially the three star reviews.
