Portland - Columbia River Gorge itinerary help

Hi All!

Was looking for some help on our itinerary for a last minute weekend trip in September. Arriving in PDX Friday 12pm, Leaving Monday at 2pm. Planning to drive the Gorge to Hood River to visit the waterfalls and hike Silver Falls State Park and do some eating/shopping around Portland.

Friday - Portland

Saturday - Gorge to Hood River

Sunday - Silverlake Falls

Monday - Shopping in Portland and leave

How long would the Gorge take if we start around 9am Saturday and plan to stop by all the waterfalls? Had been thinking about overnighting in Hood River but hotels are tough to book for that weekend for the one night so am thinking of just staying all nights in Portland and daytripping out.

Other thoughts would be going to the Gorge on Friday afternoon when we land - would it be less crowded than Saturday AM? Not sure if we'd have enough time by the time we land and get our rental care. Or Sliver Falls Friday?

Other thought would be to head out Saturday AM, Gorge- Hood River (Find somewhere to overnight) - Trillium Lake - Silverlake Falls - Back to Portland. I have a tendency to try to plan too much so unsure if thats doable with weekend crowds and if the extra driving is scenic/worthwhile. Would appreciate any and all input/suggestions.

Staying in Portland and doing day trips would work fine. We've often taken visitors on a one-day tour of the Mt. Hood Loop, including Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. You can complete the entire loop or backtrack to Hood River, cross over to the Washington side and return to Portland that way.

You might be able to satisfy your shopping urge at Woodburn Outlets. You'll be driving right by them on your way to and back from Silver Falls SP. Remember, no sales tax in Oregon.
