Area For One Night Stay

We are flying into PDX on a Saturday morning, renting a car to drive to an afternoon gathering in Tigard, then flying home early Sunday morning. The logical thing to do, I guess, would be to stay in an airport-area hotel, but I'd like to be closer to Tigard so my wife can go back to the hotel early (she's not the extrovert I am) then come get me later.

And I really don't want a 30 minute drive to PDX early in the morning. Looking for a compromise halfway between, preferably with free parking. Any suggestions?

Early morning flight? Stay at the airport. Turn in your car the night before the flight and use the hotel shuttle to get to and from the terminal.

I tried to understand your situation with your wife, but couldn't...so am ignoring it and going with common sense advice.

Welcome

You can look at kennedyschool to stay..or there abouts.

Portland isnt do bad traffic wise if you know the side streets.

And if you stay in the NE area you wint be too far ftom pdx.

I live in st johns and by taxi it takes about 30 min..but i can drive faster since i know.

And depending on your flight and day traffic may not be a big issue.

Early? Sunday wont be an issue...

Good luck

How early is your flight? I personally like to get to the airport an hour and half early for domestic flights and two hours for international. Depending on how early you get going, the roads shouldn't be bad, especially for a Sunday morning. Probably take you no longer than 40 minutes to get from Tigard to the airport. I would stay out in Tigard personally. Staying in between wouldn't make much of a difference.

If you stay in Tigard, you could check out Embassy Suites near Washington Square Mall.

Traffic on a Sunday morning will be light, so you should not need to worry about congested roads.

Personally, I think I would stay near the airport simply because I am not a morning person. LOL!

Halfway between PDX and Tigard is mainly central Portland -- downtown, NW, or close-in N/NE.

So, you can stay in Tigard to suit the Mrs, you can stay at the airport and be close to your morning flight, or you can stay downtown. Since you're here on the weekend, traffic will be *less* of an issue, but on I-5 it's pretty much always bad.

I like the Kennedy School suggestion, but it's essentially at the airport from a travel perspective. Staying downtown involves parking your rental car at some cost (though you could do street parking). Staying in Tigard means a 30-45 minute drive to the airport. Pick your poison.

I don't think we learned when this trip is happening. Winter months can mean rain, of course, but also freezing fog and ice. Come early Sunday morning, you might wish you were already at the airport.

I like Hilton Garden Inn Lake Oswego, close to Tigard and easy to get to airport on Sunday morning. Also, look at Best western tigard northwind. Both offer free parking. Tigard is big, so google which is closest to your gathering. If you are coming in the winter, I agree with those who say stay at Airport, but your wife may have to find a quiet corner at the party or go to a movie nearby. . I stayed at the Airport Holiday inn Express during an Ice storm, it was great. Re: downtown Portland, Avoid Avoid Avoid in my opinion.
