Akumal or tulum and hotel or apartment rental options

Hi all

Just booked tickets to maya rivera from the 13th of June for 8 nights. Been to playa, holbox, cancun and tulum. And inland. This time thinking Akumal would be a good base. Or back to tulum as we want to head to baclar and go interior to cenotes.

We like smaller hotels ( no all inclusive) want to be on the beach. We are considering a vacation rental or a small hotel but would like a restaurant near by or on site for breakfast or lunch.. or a beach club near by. We will be renting a car.

Our budget in 300 us a night for two adults and 1 12 year old.

Please advise if you know of anything that might fit the bill

Thanks in advance

Try Hotel Akumal Caribe - HAC (on the main beach of Akumal) and minutes from many restaurants. HAC often provides a free bfast.

You have both regular hotel rooms, some with small kitchettes by the main pool and bunglaows (behind the Dive Shop - like a small condo.

I also have been to Balacar (and try Mahahual). We enjoyed https://www.encantado.com/en/

Hotel Akumal Caribe right in Akumal is a great choice - restaurants right there and probably more interesting for a 12 year old, depending on what they like. But more off the beaten path, between Akumal and Tulum on Aventuras Akumal beach is Villas de Rosa which is a small hotel with "condos" including full kitchens and private balconies right on the beach (the pool is in back). Big beach and you can snorkel right out front. They don't have a restaurant but they have a kitchen with a pretty extensive menu they will serve you in your room, by the pool, on the beach or the rooftop patio. The prices may be a bit higher than a restaurant, but not like room service high. Also there is a small beach bar right next door that serves lunch and dinner.

Third vote for Hotel Akumal Caribe, stayed there at least 9-10 times over the years. Locally owned, rooms have a king or to doubles, AC, dorm size fridge, pool and some have kitchenettes (nothing fancy, if you want a full kitchen, book a condo). Lol-Ha restaurant and beach bar is onsite. Also all the rooms have a patio or balcony. The adjacent Villas Maya are a few bucks cheaper but no view and more important to me, no patio or balcony (like staying in Hawaii without a lanai).

To me, Akumal is more family friendly and more affordable.
