Harriman State Park?

OK posted this at the NYC forum & someone suggested I post it elsewhere so am trying here:

Hi - looking to do a hiking day trip from NYC to Harriman State Park. We won't have a car so wondering what's the best way to go, as I know both the Short Line bus & the MetroNorth train go to Sloatsburg. Our main concern is traveling to the trail head from public transpo. Does either the bus or train let you off within (reasonable) walking distance from any of the easy to moderate trail heads? Would it be best to take the train then a cab to a trail head? We have found directions from the MetroNorth to assorted trail heads but it's difficult to gauge the distance to them. Would appreciate this & any other helpful info. Thanks!

I hate to make you crazy but I think you'd be much better off on the NY city forum where there are many more readers. I found this by accident and can't really help. Perhaps Spring Valley is not the right forum either but NY city has to be better.

I don't think it's very easy to get to Harriman by public transportation. I suggest you find a co. that does a day trip with transportation. Here are some
