Me and Frappy just need to hit the road

I lost my partner of 43 years to liver cancer, and next month will be the one year anniversary of his death, and rather then sit home and feel sad, I just wanna take my small dog Frappy and get in the car and drive from Tucson to New Mexico, just to get away, to get lost for a several days, and have some unique adventures. I have no destination in mind. I just want to go. Can anyone recommend any destinations / places / things to do / hotels that are unique, maybe out of the way (kind of like the movie Bagdad Hotel), things and places that are dog friendly? Me and Frappy just need to get out of town.

And I'm doing the same but for different reasons......I've chosen T & C for the hot springs that I never knew existed there and am camping at the State park. Just need to get out of town......

Sorry for your loss.

Can you please give us an idea when you are planning your trip, and how many days you want to spend in New Mexico.

One suggestion would be to check the website New Mexico True, and the city websites, santafe.org, and visitabq, iorg for some ideas.

When we know when you are coming, we can give you tons of ideas of things to do and places to see.

Silver City is an easy 3 hour drive from Tucson. If you look up 'quirky' in the dictionary, there's a picture of Silver City there. Much of the town is dog-friendly (especially the coffee shops), the weather is great, and the town is the gateway to the Gila Wilderness-- 3.3 million acres of mostly unspoiled territory.
