Best Kid-Friendly places to go?

Hello everyone! I will be travelling with a 3yr old. Looking for something close by that I can either take the metro to or maybe a short drive? Any ideas on outdoor places for him to run free or maybe to bring a kite out. Any ideas on something indoors as well. Just going to be the 2 of us out and about for a couple of days and did not want to stay in the hotel watching TV. Thanks in advance for all of your suggestions!

You will be pretty close to the Metro, which would be a short ride into D.C. Once in the city, there are a ton of parks down by the monuments and most museums are free to visit. I'd recommend the the Natural History museum. Tons of exhibits and my son loves it. Have fun!

NASA has a small museum, well-suited to toddlers with hands-on exhibits, at the nearby Goddard Space Center. https://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/visitor/home/index.html They do rocket launches and other events on some Sundays.
