First time Visitors to DE - Looking for Area Recommendations

We’re planning a vacation this summer to the DE area and trying to decide between Rehoboth and Dewey beach or somewhere within the vicinity. We prefer to be within a 4 hr. drive of the DMV area since we're leaving the kids behind (Yay!!!). We’ve never been to the area so we're not exactly sure where the best places to stay would be. Since we’re traveling without the kids, we're looking for a combination of relaxation & nightlife options and definitely a diverse population. We're in our late 30's so we would prefer not to be surrounded by mainly 21 yr. old's, but we also like to have fun! We do know that we'd like to be within walking distance to the beach (possibly the boardwalk), restaurants, and water activities. We are thinking that a weekly vacation rental would be best rather than a hotel/inn, but we're open/flexible - and we definitely want a place that has a balcony/patio/ outdoor access from the rental. We would like to keep the rental cost under $1900 - $2000/week if possible/realistic for what we're looking for.

What are some suggestions/recommendations/advice on the best locations that would suit our needs as described above? Also, what are the differences between North/South Rehoboth, Rehoboth by the Sea and Dewey Beach?

Thanks in advance!

~ Nikki

All of Rehoboth and Dewey fit into an area of about three square miles, so it's all the same as far as "distance" to anywhere goes. Both areas will fit your bill and you will likely spend some evenings in each place even if you are staying in the other. You can walk between them, or they are a short ride away from eachother (like one mile). There is the Jolly Trolley which is a fun way to get back and forth. It's a few bucks each way.

You need to browse realtor listings to see if you can rent what you want for that price.

North Rehoboth are the streets north of Rehoboth Avenue: slightly smaller lots, closer to Dewey.

South Rehoboth are the streets south of Rehoboth Ave: slightly quieter but really not much different.

Rehoboth by the Sea include some of Dewey and some of the "Forgotten Mile" which is the unincorporated area between Rehoboth and Dewey. These are a variety of older cottages, newer condos, etc.

Dewey Beach is everything south of there to the State Shoreline park... a mix of hotels, cottages, condos, and commercial properties.

Both Dewey and Rehoboth have great beaches.

Bottle & Cork and Ruddertowne are the main entertainment venues for Dewey; there are also about 20 other bars and restaurants. You should check out https://www.deweybeachlife.com/ to get a feel for the town.

Rehoboth Beach is more focused on upscale shopping & dining. Chamber of Commerce covers both areas: https://www.beach-fun.com/

If you are foodies, I recommend staying in Rehoboth. If you are drinkers, then maybe Dewey. I love them both. You can't go wrong.

Oops. I made a typo above. SOUTH Reho is slightly smaller lots & closer to Dewey. NORTH Reho is a tad quieter. Both are great.

Hi! Dewey and Rehoboth are both great small towns where you can walk or bike from wherever you stay to the beach. Rehoboth is the larger of the two but Dewey gives you the benefit of being able to easily explore and admire the ocean and the bay. Please check out https://www.visitdelaware.com/beaches/ to see what Delaware's beaches have to offer. You can also view restaurants, stores, hotels and accommodations on our website as well. We hope you enjoy your vacation in Delaware!

Considered staying @ Dewy & didn't like the vibe. I am currently in Rehoboth Beach & very impressed! Stopped @ Mason's on the strip (not your typical tacky shops) & had the BEST crabroll. The area has a variety of very nice restaurants/shops/hotels...
