Visiting With a Toddler

Does anyone have a good itinerary to compose for a trip to colorado springs with a toddler; things to do outside of the hotel, of course? We enjoy outdoor activities, but we want to remain central to stores and close to the hotel for any reason of forgetfulness. Possibly a visit for 3 days, so we'd like to get out explore what colorado springs has to offer. I'm thinking of a budget of around $ 500 hotel included and car rental bundled, mainly looking for a small budget activity list that our son will also enjoy. He's very easily pleased, and recently, when visiting Redmond, Oregon, we took him to some caves to explore, and he quite enjoyed that, plus lakes and ponds are a plus! Or even any wildlife exploring would be fun as well! I look forward to your responses.

This thread is for a February visit but the activities would still apply: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g33364-i296-k13468255-Visit_in_Feb_with_small_children-Colorado_Springs_El_Paso_County_Colorado.html

Yes, lots of things that are free or relatively inexpensive to explore in the area. Choose from the list that you like to do then pick your hotel after that. There are a couple of areas I would warn you to stay away from. However, you can read the reviews for yourself.

Parks:

Memorial (can stroll the smallish lake with views of Pikes Peak) also has a large plaground

Acacia (nice water fountain in the summer)

Nancy Lewis Park

N. Cheyenne Canyon (specifically Starsmore Discovery Center and Helen Hunt Falls) follows a mountain stream behind the center

America the Beautiful

Palmer Park ( park near the dog park off Paseo Rd or Council Grounds Parking (the rock formations look like moon rocks!)

Bear Creek Nature Center & regional park

Garden of the Gods (grand daddy of them all) Start at the visitor's center. All free!

John Venezia

Monument Valley Park (has some historic rock formation, can take the trail along the creek

Other things:

Walk around Manitou Springs ( a couple of park there, cute hippy town, penny arcade)

Pioneer Village museum (free)

Focus on the Family has a fun area below the gift shop for kids to explore (free)

Drive up to Cave of the Winds to walk around, take in the views, have a few things for toddlers

Splurge:

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (not your ordinary zoo) I counted 12 giraffes this morning (you are face to face) Your ticket includes a drive up to Will Rogers Shrine!

Santa's Workshop at the North Pole ( geared for kids 6 yrs & under ) lots of things for toddlers

Broadmoor 7 Falls ( you can also just walk around the Broadmoor Hotel grounds ) park behind the hotel and just walk in. It's spectacular!

Should have mentioned, if you enjoy Garden of the Gods....Red Rock Canyon Open Space is a continuation of those red rocks that are easy enough for your toddler to navigate. It's across Hwy 24 on the south side of the road.

I'd not visit Focus on the Family if you happen to be an ally to the LGBTQ community.

springschick, What are some places to avoid and why? are they overcrowded, a dangerous location, bad business reputation? I'm curious. With Garden of the God, Manitou Springs, and Cave of the winds, What are your key takeaways from these destinations? What is your opinion makes them memorable? Are all of these easily accessible with a stroller?

GalxeFortCollins_CO I appreciate your feedback; two places I found interesting on that thread were that Garden of God being popular, the Red Rocks is less hectic, and Walking around Manitou Springs is fun exploring town near the springs themselves, which the little ones love, Ill definitely add these destinations to my visiting list along with some listed above! Thank you again for connecting me to that thread!

Te hotels particularly around I-25 & Nevada are too close to the homeless mission.

Also the hotels close to I -25 and West Bijou are too close to where they feed the homeless. We had a condo in that area, so I know it well.

Consider, GOG area (west) or any other area really.

The airport will have some good deals but they are too far out. All of the activities you mentioned are stroller friendly. Red Rock Canyon Open Space would be ok for a little bit , if you took the far east trail (left) of the parking area.
