Below on how I did it from Maun to Windhoek in one day:
5am: taxi from Old Bridge Backpackers to Maun's bus station
5.30am: bus to Ghanzi; arrived at Ghanzi around 9am; breakfast at R66 takeaway place close to Ghanzi bus station
10am: bus to Mamuna border post; arrived at Mamuna at 12 noon
12noon to 1.30pm: border formalities and lunch on the other (Namibian) side of the border; that shop/restaurant place whilst waiting for any possible transportation to appear
Important: there’s no public transportation between the Trans-Kalahari border post and Gobabis in Namibia and you should really be prepared to ask anyone for a lift. This border post is remote and the traffic can be very light; it’s hot as you’re in the middle of desert so taking a shade and taking it easy at that shop/restaurant place just after you cross the border would be a sensitive thing to do. Good news is that probably everyone calls at this place so getting a ride to Gobabis should eventually happen. Also, don't get rid off your leftover BWP as the exchange rate was 1:1 at the border; change into NAD at any bureau de change in Windhoek instead. It took a bit more than an hour for four of us to get someone to agree to take us to Gobabis for NAD100pp.
1.30pm: from the border to Gobabis; arrived at Gobabis around 3pm and shared taxis depart from here to Windhoek when full; had to wait on 30 mins for the shared taxi to fill up
3.30pm: off we went to Windhoek in a comfy car for NAD120 pp; arrived at Windhoek around 5.30pm. Easy.
So, four modes of transportation in 12.5 hours (door to door) to cover c.950 kms in the Afican region with almost no scheduled public transport - not bad at all!
