There is also a combi that comes from Harare through Maun and goes directly to Windhoek. Maybe a less stressful way?!

Heard of it, but this service appears to be stuff of legends. No one in Maun for the duration of our stay was sure on how frequent this service is, if it was a daily serivce etc let alone to tell us the precise time of departure. Everyone at Maun's bus station who's heard of Maun to Windhoek combi said that this service is unreliable and no one could remember when it was last time they saw this combi.

Yes, this would have been the most stress free overground public transportation from Maun to Windhoek so those who can provide some reliable info should really come forward. The info would be really appreciated by the independent travelling community!

It doesn't stop at the bus rank but at Rileys Garage. There are several operators that you call before departure. You have phone contact with them while they are on the road so that you are updated when exactly they arrive in Maun.

There are public transport from Windhoek to Maun.

I arrived Thursday oct 12. to Windhoek and Friday morning (and i think Sundays as well) a Monnokgotla bus departs 6 am to Gaborone. It departs from opposite hotel Protea/Thüringer Hof. We went fast and arrived at the junction in Botswana 12:05. After 25 minutes another bus from Gaborone passed and continued to Maun. This bus was from the company Seabelo House. The Monnokgotla bus knew it was coming and told it. Arrived in Maun 16:20. 810 km's in 10 hours and 20 minutes. Cost 300 NAD + 63,50 BWP. About 25 EUR total.

Followed this itinerary just last week with my wife. There may have been a couple of slight changes:-

The bus from Ghanzi actually stopped 8km short of the border in Botswana at Charles Hill. Bus fares from Maun to Ghanzi were 50 Pula per person. And from Ghanzi to Charles Hill was 41.50 Pula. There was an opportunistic taxi there doing shuttle runs for 5 Pula per person.

Then we were able to secure a lift to Windhoek from the border crossing for $210 Namibian Dollars. So about $25 US per person.
