Can anyone update me on the water levels for Okavanga Delta? I am going in early may, 2024
Early May is the start of the Delta's flood season, so water levels are expected to be rising which is good news for your trip. This means more areas will be accessible by mokoro (traditional boats) and other water-based activities should be available.
It all depends on where you are going. The Delta is very dry this year as we have had the worst rain fall in Maun in 40 years. This normally does not affect the Delta, but after last years low flood, it would have helped keep some water in the Delta so the flood does not have to fill so manty areas. Thus taking longer to reach us from Angola. At the moment the inner Delta is very dry and we do not expect the flood till at least June. But this can change with some good rains late. Never know.
thanks for the info. I just talked to my travel agency and seems it’s still very dry? I was planning to visit late May but might have to change my plan.
Any one can update the situation? Appreciate🙏🏻😊
Where are you going in Delta? Water activities are available in a number of places year round. Some get flood water earlier than others… I think the experts on here can help you if you share your itinerary.
Moremi game reserve and Khwai village game drive area, will be easy to drive. Travel dates are middle of May 2024. Thank you.
