Hiking closest to Village of Oak Creek

Hi all. We will be in Sedona in late May staying near the Canyon Mesa club. All of these posts about crowds and parking have me thinking we need to plan a bit better than we originally intended. Can someone share the closest hikes/trails to the Village of Oak Creek? Perhaps that helps avoid some of the heavier crowds?

Also interested in suggestions for scenic kayaking? From what I've seen so far, Watson Lake looks like the closest, scenic option?

Thanks everyone!

Here's a hiking trails map close to VOC:

https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3851980.pdf

VOC is at the south end of this map. There are 4 large trailhead parking lots along Hwy 179 for a network of trails. They all get full at times. Hopefully you'll get lucky.

There is a trailhead farther out on Jacks Canyon Rd, past Canyon Mesa. Also, drive to the end of Verde Valley School Rd for trailhead parking, then cross the road to the trail.

And there's Woods Canyon Trailhead at the Red Rock Ranger District along Hwy 179 just south of VOC. The trailhead is more to the south end of the complex, not up by the Visitors Center.

There is kayaking on the Verde River, but there might be little water in it. If you are only in Sedona for a few days, I wouldn't spend time to go all the way to Watson Lake in Prescott. Kayaking is just not one of those things that people come to Sedona for.

I like Hiline from the Yavapai Vista trailhead. Slim Shady is also an option from the same lot, as are several others.

Watson Lake is indeed most scenic. It’s about 90 minutes away.

Thanks for the info. We will be there for 8 days. We love kayaking and try to take a kayak trip wherever we go. Happy to travel a bit for it!

With 8 days, you could certainly take a day trip over to Prescott. In addition to kayaking Watson Lake, you might also like to mosey around Courthouse Square and Whiskey Row, maybe eat lunch in the area.
