Hakone 3D2N itinerary, Needs Expert Advice

Hi,

Will be staying 3D2N in Hakone 3rd week of May, need help/advise/suggestion as this is our first time there.

Day 1

Take morning Odakyu's Romance car from Shinjuku to Hakone & doing circular tour of the region

After that check in to Shinanoki Ichinoyu

Do we have enough time as want to visit open air museum as well?

Does not wish to rush ourselves prefer to do it in a relax way

Day 2

It is advisable to visit Lake Kawaguchi or Mt Fuji 5th station today since we have full day?

If yes, how to go from Hakone.

Otherwise where else should we visit in Hakone not really very keen on visiting all the museum

Day 3

After check out, would like to visit Gotemba Premium outlet

Is that any directly bus from this hotel Shinanoki Ichinoyu?

Afterwhich do we take romance car back to Shinjuku?

Thank you.

If you interested in visiting both places, you may want to look into the Fuji Hakone Pass (FHP). Instead of staying both nights in Hakone, you can spend one night in each location and save you time going back and forth.

Day 1: If you arrive early (9:00) you probably able to do it. If you check in your hotel in the middle of the day it may take you an additional hour. Check with your hotel when is the latest time you can check in.

Day 2: If you use the FHP, you can check out your hotel take the bus to Gotemba do a little shopping before continue to Lake Kawaguchi in the afternoon. If you decide to stay in Hakone for both nights, you can check out what other things you may like to visit.

Day 3: You have roughly a day in Lake Kawaguchi before taking the highway bus back to Tokyo.

your overall plan is quite relaxed, which is good.

YOur day 1 looks pretty easy to complete a round trip of Hakone, incl Tozan train to Gora, cable car to Sounsan, ropeway (partial), cruise across Ashinoko etc, as you're commencing in the morning from Shinjuku.

However, after day 1 in Hakone, there is no need to backtrack to Hakone if you're heading to Kawaguchi-ko, stopping by Gotemba outlet. If you prefer to stay in Hakone, better pick a hotel near Hakone Togendai, where the highway bus departs.

On day 2, pick a hotel/ryokan in the northern shore of Kawaguchi-ko, where Mt Fuji can be seen if weather permits.

On day 3, consider visiting the Fuji Shibazakura festival.

I haven't done it yet (arrive this time next week) but feel sure both destinations plus time in Gotemba might be rushed. But then I see the pass for both is only offered as a three day max. Not sure if because this considered ample time, or rather so you pay for more extras.

We have planned 5 days/4 nights, two in Gora (for Hakone) and two Kawaguchiko

It allows for a relaxed departure ex Narita on the 1st morning, possible look around in Odawara and Hakone to arrive at

accommodation near check in time. Day two do the circular tourist route.

Day three is free for either early or late (if Hakone region is extra nice) transfer to Kawaguchiko which then allows for no need to feel rushed with day 4 and as much of the

final day to explore before heading back to Tokyo (again early or late)

It's a pity there's no longer pass.

And it's worth noting many posters have commented on the time to travel between the two regions isn't quick. And additionally

the Retro Bus can be busy with wait for next

free one.

Now for a couple of questions of my own.

Do we need pre book Highway Bus back to Tokyo from Kawaguchiko. Hoping to choose our departure time on the day.

And how are our accommodation. Hotel Sawa in Kawaguchiko and Tabibito no Yado e Rooms (Gora). Any comment re locations, surroundings etc.

Hello, please post how your accommodation is. We are booked at the erooms in gora in August for 2 nights.

Are there any convenience stores 7-11 lawsons etc within easy walking distance of gora ? I don't remember there being one in the town itself.

thank you

Did you get to see Mt Fuji at all from the lake? I once stayed at Gotemba and we had a wonderful view from the window but unfortunately we are a group going and where we stayed is not big enough for 8 people.

There is a nearby(ish) (NOT Lawson or 7-11 though) foodstore.

From erooms, go downhill to first cross street....right and cross under/over the rail line...short walk on the left.

On our map it appeared a easy walk from the cable car rail to erooms - it is, but better done from the first stop than the second - even though the 2nd is higher elevation and thus downhill

the accommodation was perfectly fine. Futon (on the floor/make up your own bed) bedding was really comfortable, and very snug and warm. Not a particularly big sleeping area once 2 peoples bedding laid out. Well equipped. Lower levels have view more of car park than anything.

2 nights in Gora, 2 in Kawaguchiko. We only saw the mountain twice - distant above the cloud views from ropeway day 2, and morning we left, perfect 'end of our street' (and most of town) views in Kawaguchiko.
