My husband and I would like to visit Siem Reap (not soon- thinking 2023) however he does NOT eat any culturally different foods. He won’t try them for personal reasons but my question is, how difficult is it to find generic “American” food, or “fast food” or even chain restaurants in Siem Reap? He’s a plain chicken and rice kinda guy... TIA

68 helpful votes Plain chicken and rice can be found, so no need to worry.... Many of the restaurants cater for Westerners who are not as adventurous as others.... No Macdonalds or KFC (thank goodness)
While there might be bugs on offer in Pub Street of an evening, you will also find burgers or pizzas too.... the good thing is they will also have traditional dishes like Lok Lak (beef with salad) & Amok (curry) ...... Miss Wongs has the best dumplings & small tasting plates to enjoy with cocktails...

Regrettably there are all too many places
but just how do you define "culturally "different food the Cambodians eat many things you might eat at home even if their presentation might vary grilled pork or chicken with rice, fantastic barbecued fish and seafood

As I hope you understand, asking about which eateries will be open to you in 2023 in the midst of the greatest tourism crisis Siem Reap in particular, and other parts of Cambodia in general have ever faced, is akin to consulting a crystal ball at the present moment.
So many of the options we have known in past years are unlikely to survive and be available to us in 2023. Only time will tell which ones are left standing and still operating. The economic pressures on landlords/leasors and leasees due to the Covid - 19 induced collapse in tourism for so long now is taking a heavy toll.
One has only to read the Cambodia business and real estate related media as well as the expat media to see the number of former tourism related properties, businesses and leases up for sale or transfer etc to understand this.
But regardless, where there is a demand there will be a supplier so your husband will not starve.

I went to Siem Reap two weeks ago, very sad to see so many restaurants have closed, there are a lot still open but one does wonder how long they can survive.
I also went to see Angkor Wat again, there were not very many people to see the sunrise over Angkor Wat, my girlfriend and I were the only ones at Ta Prohm and I only saw a few people at Bayon.
I hope this disaster to the tourism industry in Cambodia comes to an end sooner rather than later.

Will he eat Italian food? There was a great pizza place and I seem to remember a German place. But as others said, who knows what will survive?
no problem, plain chicken and rice, Italian, burgers, salads and Mexican food everywhere

TA calls #1 a Destination Expert.
And just because they do that, doesn't mean a DE knows absolutely everything about their city / country / area.
Personally, I would have been disappointed if B&B did know where every fast food chain restaurant was.
But maybe that's just me.
Or maybe not. :-)
Might want to avoid making gender claims, too. ;-)
