Current situation in Siem Reap
Save

Hello, Before the Corona virus hit the world I booked a flight to go from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap (I live in PP).

I would be grateful if anyone in SR could advise me what is open and closed, tourist attractions, markets and Pub Street are the main things I am interested in.

I am still deciding if I should cancel the flight and go later in the year or just take the trip to Siem Reap in June.

Many thanks

Roger

Hi Roger, the markets are mostly open ,except some night markets, some restaurants are open and busy, others closed,Angkor eye is not operating and the circus is closed,i think a few bars in pub street are open, the Temples are open and very quite, schools are closed,we had some lovely welcome rain today so place is cooler,if you want to visit the temples there is a great deal going on now and with no tourist its the best time to go

Look forward to hearing which of our faves have re-opened....

Is Red Piano opened? What about the sister business in Sok San Road?

Looks like the Aussie Cambodia lovers are still NOT allowed to leave our country just yet, with quite a few friends and family being OS travel wary.... lots of promotions about spending out travel dollars closer to home..... so living our love of Cambodia may be via TA Trip Reports for some time yet :(

Cheers, baddles

Red Piano is still closed,it was taken over a while ago by the temple guy group, but remains closed, cosy bar is open,so its really up to the restaurants if they open or not, viva is very busy as most are shut, just lack of tourists,we have no restrictions on travel within Cambodia, actually i am heading off to Koh Rong later this week, yes baddles i was going to head to Aussie in March,i have a property in Qld,but i heard the states are closed so not good for me back there yet,as my family are spread though=out Australia,Cambodia has have Zero deaths as with Vietnam so i think travel will resume a bit later with in Asian countries first

Khmer, had seen some Facebook posts from old owners which seemed to imply they were moving on... and no surprise Temple Group snapped it up!

Agree, doubt International travel will be on the cards just yet for Australians, though New Zealand may be the first addition and possibly some of the Pacific Islands (Fiji, New Caledonia, Vanuatu etc.)

Queensland Premier is under pressure from our Federal Government to open up but she is remaining firm.... each State Premier has the final say in Covid-19 restrictions but Federal Government is pushing for openings, in the hope the Economy grows quicker which in turns makes the numbers look better for them (in my opinion only of course)....

Baldric's family are in country Queensland and while keen for a road trip to visit, they are also in the vulnerable age bracket and it will take us a couple of days to get there, so the potential of inadvertently spreading Covid to them needs to be taken into consideration before making the trip.

Hope springs eternal so we will return, just at a later date than we would like.... Travel Safe takes on yet another meaning nowadays....

Cheers, baddles

My trip to Siem Reap has now been cancelled, Cambodia Angkor Airlines have cancelled the flight I was due to take on June 6, no refund will be given but my ticket will left open to rebook the flightvatca later date, I am a bit disappointed, I was looking forward to a change of scenery, now I am looking forward to going to Siem Reap at the end of the year.

And hopefully back to Melbourne to see my daughter early next year.

Regards

Roger

Good evening

I hope all are well

Its actually never been a better time to visit SiemReap and make a sincere difference. Various Hotels are indeed still open as are various bars and restaurants. A visit now will make a big difference for those owners indeed

On the same note indeed 150.000 Khmer who used to work in the tourism industry have now lost their jobs so your visit, any visit is more than Wellcome. In fact ; its needed

3 hotels have partnered with FRIENDS Intl , Sala Bai Hotel School, Tourism Cares, The Cambodian Landmine museum + ChildSafe and started Hotelsjoinnghands.com

this initiative is solely dependent on donations and started on April 20 2020 and has now reached 49.000+ #plasticfree / #Styrofoamfree meals donated at various locations in Siem Reap. Unfortunately its indeed needed (search on google for the website or contact the 3 participating hotels for more info)

So, in short - please do visit !
