I am thinking of backpacking from KUL to Siem Reap then to Laos.
Any one done that before please share.
Thanks.
What do you mean by backpacking your way? Trekking by foot?
You want to go to Siem Reap plus 2 or 3 other locations in Cambodia, then 2 or 3 locations in Laos, so a total of 5-7 locations, all in 8 days???
Nowhere near enough time.
We recently backpacked through Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and Laos.
It took us 3 months and of course, only scratched the surface. 8 days you say? Not possible.
Maybe 8 days trip then what you are thinking of is impossible: 4 - 6 locations in two countries in 8 days. Simply impossible unless you are doing some sort of Amazing Race challenge and just want to touch your feet down somewhere, take a selfie at a sign designating the location and then moving on. Time to rethink your plan. With 8 days you could do 2 locations in Cambodia.
Fly into Siem Reap. Spend a few days. Take a bus to Phnom Penh. Spend a few days. Fly out from there to KL. You could possibly include another place in Cambodia but since I have not been anywhere else in Cambodia, I cannot make any recommendations. If you have more time - like 3 weeks - then take the train or bus through southern Thailand stopping at a few places until you reach Bangkok. Then take a tedious 6-9 hour bus journey to Siem Reap. Then fly back from there. Laos is rather out of the way and expensive to fly to and from. I don't think you can get there easily by road from Cambodia, especially from Siem Reap. It's the 3rd world.
Thanks all for the feedback.
Need re think my plans then. I only know and possible 2 days ea loc?
Phnom Penh,
what else?
Vientianne,
Luang Prabang,
what else?
Because the fly in and fly out i counted 2 days already so total 10 days.
If you are absolutely determined to do more than say PP and SR in Cambodia then I would add Luang Prabang long before I would add Vientiane. Flights between SR and LP usually are not in the 'backpacker budget' being between $150 - $220. You can search for those on Lao Airlines website but also from Vietnam Airlines who have a direct flight between the two.
