USD in Siem Reap

I just returned from Siem ReAp but am still wondering why all the transactions are mentioning Ned in USD prices though they have their local currency. And surprisingly all the vendors and the tuk tuk Driver also accepts USD !!

Any locals to clarify this ??

Thank you , then we should then meet. I have been married to 3 Cambodian women and have 7 children there and have been in and out of Cambodia for the last 30 years.

It is true that people often quote with a rounded figure of the dollar. A tuktuk will usually quote you $2 or $3 but not $2.5. You are welcome to bargain for $2.5, of course.

If we have USD 100, where can we change to small portion ie, USD 5.10, 20 etc at airport?

Not sure about airport. You could bring some small denomination notes from Malaysia for immediate expenditure and change big notes when you pay bigger amounts (e.g. for Angkor Pass, Museum etc) or at your hotel.

Make sure you have lots of small dollar notes. People don't or won't give you change.

Tuk tuk drivers often don't carry change for more than a $5 but it's really not a problem elsewhere - you may have to wait a few minutes while shop keepers or stall holders rush off to a nearby shop/stall to get change - lack of change is never an obstacle to making a sale.

You can easily break larger notes at one of the supermarkets
