Just a little hint re prices here for first timers

Hi

Not entirely sure if I am confident enough to write a trip report but thought I’d pass on a little bit of info I’ve learnt here in Siem Reap - we are here now.

T shirts at the markets are easily bargained down to $2 BUT at the temples they were $1. No overheads apparently. I bought a dress for myself - long sundress for $5 at the market but cheaper at the temples. Really surprised by that. Pretend Nike Ts for men, the silky sort are $3 at the market. Beers are still 50c at a lot of places, pitchers of Singapore Sling $5.95 etc.

I’m fussy with food but here the food is great.

Tomorrow is massage day.... rolled ice cream as it looks good, and laundry at $1 per kilo. After two days of wonderful temples, we need a temple break.

Not sure if this helps anyone but i would have liked to know...just didn’t ask.

Dags I forgot yes there were Columbia knock offs but nice ones in Central Market, I remember one (there are probably more) stalk facing the street with shorts, bags etc. Mr OE hasn’t bought a thing. His case is empty-ish, mine bulging.

Two things not that common / cheap here is chocolate and nail polish.

Beer about 50c a can cheapest, water 30c a bottle. Spirits are super cheap compared to home. Big bottle of Canadian Club $11. Mr OE was happy!!

Do you think there's any cotton in a $1 T-shirt?

probably - but it wont be a decent quality and will shrink (or stretch width-wise at the hem), distort and fade very quickly

Thanks so much for your tip. I would have thought it would be more expensive at the temples. Now I know. Will be there beginning of March. Thanks again.

Optional, good tips even for those NOT first timers..... good info!

What did you think of Sihanoukville? We only lasted one night which I put down to very BAD choice of hotel.. AVOID Queenco Palm Beach!

But I'm still tempted to tryOtres 2 or Koh Rong Samloem, not sure about baldric ;)

Cheers baddles

Hi Baldric

I actually liked Sihanoukville but then we were at Otres 2. Shame your hotel and area wasn’t good when you were there. Where we were was mostly families and older people so it was quiet. Definitely not a party area. The beach was nice, water warm and sunsets divine with plenty of touring options nearby. I see some huge hotels are being built around there so it might not be so nice in the future. It’s not perfect but us Aussies are precious re beaches, we expect a lot, but I’d be happy there for a week or so. Good luck

Thanks Optional.... maybe we'll give it a second shot after all..... even with 3 weeks last trip (my 6th) we had to drop a few places we want to visit.... good excuse to start thinking bout trip 7... ;)

I'm a Victorian so the thrill of walking straight into the sea for a swim is pretty good, no matter what.

Thanks again baddles
